flip cap scope question

i was just on ebay looking for scope caps that flip. my scope is a 40 mm bushnell, but thats the size of the lens, the actual diameter is just over 50 mm. so if i order the scope caps that flip open do i order 50 mm caps?

did some more reading, pretty sure the 40 mm cap set should work. it showed an outer measurement in the listing that seemed about right

Use the sizing chart from Butler Creek and use the outside diameter of the ocular or objective lenses My Bushnell 6-24x50mm measures at 60mm and my 2.5-16x44 measures at 54mm. Both measurements are for the objective side.

good to know thanks bud. i ended up buying a butler creek pair of covers. figure if theyre a little too big some black electrical tape will make them fit properly
