Flip-Flop recoil pad

just to add a note to an old thread....

for the recoil sensitve folks who like to shoot at the bench, here is what I did a decade ago.

I had one of those flat blue closed cell foam sleeping mats. I cut a piece off about 5" wide X 30" long

I folded it over 3 times so it was roughly 5x9" and I ran some large staples through it to hold shape... a large needle and thread would work also.

then I placed it in a towel, and folded it over, and would hang it over my shoulder in a position A La the PACT recoil shoulder pad

Worked awesome, but does add about 1.125" LOP

ETA: it MAY be spelled PAST.... I can't remember. Dang CRS syndrome

They really work. Rick says shooting his 338 Ruger feels like his Husqvarna 270. He had a lot of difficulty handling the recoil before the flip-flop went on.

We started using them on lightweight mountain rifles, because they save 4-5 ounces weight over a standard pad. I used this single one on a lightweight 300 Win Mag in a pretty walnut stock until I sold it.

I found it to recoil less than with the original pad, and the CGNer who has it now is quite pleased as well.

HuntNL has one of my old 9.3X62 Husqvarnas. It is a quite light for a rifle that generates over 3500 ft/lb muzzle energy, and yet reasonably manageable with a single flip-flop.

You might ask him what he thinks about it.

Also, if you read thus thread from the beginning, you can see what others think, as well as how this all got started. :)

Well it's over four years now since I did the first one, and it is still going strong. All of the pads that I am aware of are the same. Maybe some of the other guys can chime in here with their experience, as well.

Lately, I have been using water-based contact cement for both laminating the double pads, and gluing to the stock. It works, is non-flammable, and can be used inside with no organ cell problems.

We use foam knee pads at work that seem to be about the same material as flip/flops. There' always odd ones of them laying around. Gonna try one on my SKS for extra LOP.

My dollar store flip fllop recoil pad.

My flip flop recoil pad bought at the dollar store for 1.99 and have enough material left for 3 more that's .50 cents each. Spacers are white from a bleach bottle and the red an old pail.

You can also cut pieces out of those interlocking foam pads which are sold for use on floors. Fifteen bucks buys a lifetime supply of pads. Various colours available though I doubt many people want pink, yellow, or blue. Glue them on with Shoe Goo. This would be especially appropriate if using a flip flop.
