Here's a few pictures of a recoil pad job I did over the weekend. Local sporting goods store was closed, and I didn't have a pad that would fit a stock I was working on, so made one out of one of a pair of Flip Flops. Yes, the things you wear on your feet!
I had read about this on another site a few years ago, and just figured Why not?
First, the butt was rounded, so had to sand that flat. Then cut out a piece of the Flip Flop that was about 1/4" bigger than the butt, all around.
Mixed up some Acraglass, applied it to both the pad and the wood, let it set for a while to penetrate, and then glued them together. Tied it all up with parachute cord to keep it under pressure, and put it in the furnace room while the epoxy set up.
Here's what it looked like immediately after I removed the cord,
and what it looks like after sanding it down. Have a small touch up to do on the wood.
I know it's hard to believe it's really a flip-flop, so here's another picture!
The pair of flip-flops cost $2.99!
Have a good day, my friends!
