Flip-Flop recoil pad

Just a quick update. The pad has survived many, many, rounds on the 9.3X57 just fine. Have had two other people shoot it, one of them a young 22 yr old gal, with nary a whimper.

The guy who tried it wants to take it moose hunting next week. :D

Sounds as though you've put your project "through its paces" or at least "given it a good run for the money". I couldn't resist the play on words but your efforts sound like quite an idea. Congrats on your success.

Material came off as dust. No trouble at all shaping the pad.

The amazing thing about this pad is that not one person has recognized it as something other than regular pad, and it really does quite effectively reduce the recoil.

Was this gal cute? Us younger member demand pics! :p

(By the way, great to hear! Might give it a go on the new Savage I'm getting... The current "pad" they use is more like a stiff piece of plastic.)

Yes Ted, it would be a crime to waste the second flip flop! Thank you for excelent idea. By, by $40+ comercial ripoffs....

My Decelerator on my McMillan stock, IIRC, cost me $110!

Here's how to replace the pad on a Stevens 200, which uses recycled hockey pucks. :D

The hollow butt filled with HILTI structural foam, allowed to cure for 48 hours, sanded flat with butt, and flip flop installed as above. Almost as effective as a $50 Limbsaver on a 300 Win Mag. Certainly far better than the hockey puck!

Have used high density foam or flip flops as well, I try to find a flip flop with less tread pattern. Works very well to make a lite weight pad for composite stocks.

Ya, it looks funky, but the tread pattern actually turns out to be quite practical. Doesn't slide around on wet grass and rocks. :D

There is another Stevens 300 Win Mag getting the flip-flop treatment in a few days. A guy could make a fortune at this! ;)
