Flitz wax on newly hand oiled cooey stock

2cylolson what an informative post...thx. I knew BLO dried by air and not uv, but the way you explain it helps understand it more.
And why not letting the each coat of BLO fully cure completely is so important.
I find placing a stock that is dry to the touch over a heating register will help lots. Not so much for the heat, although I'm sure that helps,
but for the moving air around the stock.

BLO IS the finish. i have had several stocks done with BLO and none of them ever gave me a reason to think I needed to apply another finish over it to protect it.

My latest oil finish stock on my Rem 7600 is over 25 years old and have never touched it up. She comes out of hiding every year for later summer, early fall target practice as well as two weeks of deer hunting in weather ranging from near t-shirt weather to -18c, sunny, to rain, to snow. It always looks good.
