Anyone used one of these before? http://ww w.cabelas.com/catalog/largeImagePopup.jsp?productId=711355

I have an arctic survival floater suit I was contemplating using in conjunction with one of these to hopefully harvest a massive quantity of ducks. Am I being overly optimistic? :D

I thought about it but my spots are too shallow to use one and too deep and mucky to wade. I think it would work ok provided you don't have to go out too far to retrieve your birds. And like any other time the birds are going to come in when your backwards paddling out to the downed birds.

I used one a few times over the years. I was always hunting with my Dad though, so he'd drop me off in a clump of cattails and then pick me up (along with the ducks) when the shooting was over. I really liked it because the bottom of our marsh is all mucky, sticky, swallow-you-up type mud, and it allowed me to hunt spots otherwise I wouldn't be able to. I fired 3 3 1/2" shells at a goose (go ahead, you can laugh ;)) and I didn't spin too much for what it's worth.

I tried it a couple of seasons ago and hope to shoot with mine again this fall, perhaps in some large backwoods ponds and marshes that would otherwise be difficult to hunt. I'll probably limit my use of it to the first month or so of the season.

I'm thinking of setting up a rig utilizing a decoy bag to pack the inflated tube into the back woods, maybe with a handful of wood duck or ringneck decoys depending on what's around. We'll see how it goes....
