guys.
I am receiver bedding and barrel floating an older Vanguard {made in Japan} for a buddy. The barrel channel has a pressure point just past the sling stud.In order to float the barrel and keep it low in the stock channel I am going to have to dremel out the pressure point.
Anybody taken this on ?Do Vanguards shoot as well with the barrel floated? I would love to hear before I waste my time and end up putting the pressure point back in.Thanks RB

I just did my own Vangard in 223.Its a syntetic stock, but the barrel channel was really tight. When you put it back in the stock you had to squeeze the barrel into the channel with your hands. So I relieved it on the sides and left the pressure point at the front of the forend. It didn' seem to make any diff. Then I cut the pressure point and free floated the whole barrel, made all the diff.It will shoot 1/2" all the time.Best group so far is just under
1/4".Haven't even bedded the action yet, going to shoot it some more may just leave it the way it is.

"...shoot as well..." There's no way of predicting what any rifle will do when you float the barrel. Even two rifles with consecutive S/N's will be different. The only way to find out is to try it. Putting a pressure point in is no big deal.
"...It will shoot 1/2" all the time..." That'd fall under Rule No.1. It works. Don't fix it.
