Hi jus ta quick one.
I set up my FLS die today, an backed it off quite a bit, at the moment it is sizing the neck down to about 2mm off the shoulders..

So is this mostly just sizing the neck and not touching the shoulders? they are chambering in my Remington rifle no worries an I think il keep it like that an see if I can chamber next reload.

cheers

Lots of people do that, I see it called "partial full length sizing"
Load and shoot, good idea to make sure they chamber after sizing, before loading from time to time.

Happy shooting.

You did not mention the rtype of rifle.

A bolt action has some camming action when you close the bolt, so if there is a little resistance, you know you are pushing the shoulder of the case onto the chamber. Which is good.

When you get to that point, try turning the die in a quarter turn, to see if you can bump the shoulder a tad. That would be the perfect place to lock the die.

In a lever, semi or pump, you really want to find that perfect place to control the shoulder, because the action might have less camming on closing.

And for hunting, run 100% of the ammo through the magazine and chamber, just to be sure it all fits. I learned that one the hard way.

Yeah sorry, Its a Bolt Action Remington 700, and all brass was shot through this rifle.

I think what im doing will be sweet and after these first firing il be able to tell if i need to bump shoulders back a bit.

Though 99% of the time brass is ready to go aside from some dented necks, occasionally mistakes happen and new brass is oversize for your chamber. I haven't had it happen but others have loaded a full batch of brand new brass only to get to the range and find out that every primer they seated, every charge they weighed out, every bullet they seated had to be taken home, pulled apart and the brass FL sized. On the first firing of some Lapua .308 brass I had a couple that chambered tightly.

Huh? New brass not ready to load? Since when.

With a bolt, there is no problem in having a bit of resistance when closing the bolt. My target rifles are all made with -1 though headspace, so some factory ammo has resistance.

Just make sure your locking lugs are greased.

Hey guys, turned out all good, theres a thread in the Sport an hunting Arms forum, titled .270win at slower velocitys.... some photos of how I went.

didn't have a drama with the 15 or so I had loaded with closing the bolt... or lifting for that matter.

All good!

cheers
