Flush cups and bipod?

This is a Pachmayr style push in and rotate? The actual sling loop has a T crosspiece that engages in the cup?

Not that I can find, and believe me I HAVE looked.

Me too...nothing!

I hate having the stud in the way when I shoot off a pack or off the bench.

I have been thinking about mounting a detachable pic rail (perhaps with a threaded insert) and going to a Rock Cr bipod?
What do you think of Rock bipod?

Is there a decent low profile rail that would fit the A-5?
The only one that I can find is the Seekins?

Are your flush cups on the side of your stock? I've never seen them under the forend before... Your stock doesn't have like an Anschutz rail or something?

I'm really curious as to how your set up... The only known flush cup set up where it's under the forend is when you use a Parker-Hale style handstop.

Some pics would help.

OK, flush cup, the swivel has a central pushbutton and four little ball bearings press outwards to engage a groove in the cup?
Here is what I would do to get a bipod mounting stud in place. I would make a stud that would fill the cup, and be secured to the stock by replacing the screw which holds the cup in place. The stud would be locked in place inside the cup. Basically a one piece unit. It would not be quick detachable, the stud would project like a conventional QD stud until it was removed so the swivel could be used again. Would be a basic lathe, filing and drilling project.

All my A-5s have them in both positions so I can use a military or 3 point sling and also use a regular hunting sling....For hunting
I had also hoped to rig up a bipod using the flush cups...

Perhaps an Anschutz rail is the way to go, but most of the pieces I saw looked rather flimsy.

Any ideas?

Hang on though, doesn't the A5 have TWO swivel studs that you can mount a bipod and sling on? Did you remove those and mount sockets in their place?

I'm waiting on a couple of orders from McMillan and if I could locate a stud to do what I want with a bipod I'd order them with flush cups instead of studs. These are a classic and a compact.

Flush cups on the sides and bottom.

Installing a threaded insert is no big deal and the stud is easy to take out. This is normally what I do, but I assumed there were some better rail or other bipod mounting options.

For better or for worse, apparently! :D

So what do you guys have exactly under your forends? Just a single, flush cup?

As mentioned, thats the benefit of getting a McMillan stock, they make them according to your specs. I have an A-5 with flush cups on the forend and butt for the sling but have a swivel stud fwd of the flush cup for the bipod. I mainly shoot off a bag and a small swivel stud interferes in no way. The stud is so small and the stock is resting on the bag nowhere the stud anyway.

A properly installed forend rail is extremely strong and it allows you to put the bipod anywhere you like along its length, and take it off when you like and install other hardware as well.

What rail and Harris Bipod mount do you recommend Ian?
Or do you recommend a different bipod?

We make a rail in 7075 alu, machined from solid which really works well. There are some extrusions around which are too soft. We also make an insert which you can position where you like to attach the bipod. The bipod is really what suits you best and what type of shooting you are doing. The Harris can work well and folds but is not the best for F for a number of reasons but is excellent for a lot of other uses. The Rolls Royce bipod for F has to be the Remple and the Sinclair is also very good, in fact I just bought one for myself (can't justify a Remple for my limited bipod use). There are also a bunch of different "tactical" bipods which I am not familiar with. So it really depends on what you are doing with it, for non serious F or hunting the Harris is an easy choice.

Forgot to mention that rails should be bolted on properly no matter what stock material. I have ripped out too many wood screws shooting prone with a sling and some of these other bipods etc can put a lot of torque on a rail.
