Fluted Op Rod Spring Guide

I know this has come up a few times before, but I don't believe there is any advantage or disadvantage. Putting on a correct USGI spring and a solid fitting OpRod spring guide will help for repeatable accuracy.
 
flutes are the speed holes of the op rod spring guide world.

Theres no real advantage other than shaving a couple 0.0 oz.

buzzballer has it right, as long as the spring sits straight along the guide and doesn't "snake/kink" like it does with your norc guide, you are golden.

The usgi springs are a little longer, and have a little "kink" than the norc springs though, even with roost3r, m14.ca etc. guide rods.
 
I have the M14.ca Fluted op rod spring guide. I'm using a tubbs spring and the ORSG is small enough to fit Chinese springs, which are slightly smaller. I guess the fit could be a tiny bit better.

Anyway, the flutes help a tiny bit with weight. One thing that I've noticed that's minor but worth mentioning is that I oil my spring for smooth cycling. The flutes seem to hold a bit of the oil and help keep the spring oiled.

Plus the flutes and less drag on the op rod spring as it collapses and extends in operation.

Fluted, or round does not really matter as much as over all quality and hardness of the spring guide.
 
The fluted spring guide dissipates heat faster when in full auto and 20 round mags…LOL….
....oh yes this is Canada we cant have that….....
