Fluting a cylinder

Why ? I personally love the look of an unfluted cylinder, easier to clean, and some claim a little extra weight for recoil, doubt anybody would notice though.

Very much depends on which gun.

If you're machinist/gunsmith is well equipped it's a doable job. However, between the work itself, probably having to re-heat treat it, and re-proof it, it would probably be cheaper to guy another gun with a fluted

cylinder.

Most unfluted guns have a much more common fluted version - buy a cylinder and have it installed.

The trade off is the extra mass of the cylinder means more inertia to be overcome when shooting double action. Ergo: heavier trigger pull and slower cycling.

Intresting. I have a S&W 686 .357 7 shot mag... love it. Never thought or heard of that being done. Will it weaken the cylinder?

H&R .22 revolvers are cool just as they were made. Nice stuff.
