I just took a non-restricted firearms course here in NFLD, and was told by the instructor that Full Metal Jacketed ammo was 100% ILLEGAL in Canada, and you are not allowed to possess it. (AS I looked at a .303 FMJ dummy round he had for the course!)

This has to be wrong, right? I know FMJ can't be used for hunting, but it's fine for range use?

Of course, this same guy tried to tell me the dummy .303 was a rimfire round, because there was no primer pocket... It even had a '.303 British' headstamp..

The same instructor was also '100% positive' that any centrefire magazine over 5 rounds was illegal, and that there were only two types of rimfire ammunition available, .22 short and LR.

The instructor was 100% wrong. Fortunately, there is no such question on the exam.
Usually CFSC intructors are not as ignorant as this individual.

Armour piercing ammo and tracer ammo is all that are illegal as far as I know!

I actually think that tracer ammo is legal as well.. Is it considered to ignite the target?

Armor piercing and explosive ammunition is obviously illegal.

Handgun ammunition specifically designed to be armour piercing, incendiary ammunition under 15?mm, shotgun flechette ammunition is prohibited. Tracer is not.

I use 45 and all of my ammo for that pistol is FMJ I use it for target practice
and I might use it if a bear attacks my family usually airms right between eyes

Ontario- legal to possess, legal to hunt (but not recommended).
No Federal statutes governing this.

Newfie? go figure

FMJ is prohibited if fired from a bullpup type assault weapon. Once you chamber that round you are a felon.

Oh, this guy is real great.. I quoted the regulation about the magazines to him in an email, right off of the Firearms Act webpage, and he's telling me that it's written on the page wrong.

Apparently he's contacting the Cheif Firearms Officer about it.

Anybody have a PDF of the complete Act? The link from the website is dead.

"...FMJ is prohibited if fired from a bullpup type assault weapon..." Whoever told you that is confused. A bullpup that can be fired out of the stock is evil. FMJ's are not. Nor is trace or AP. Incendiaries are. So is APTI.
"...a felon..." No such thing in Canada. That's an American term. We call our criminals, criminals.

I'm sorry to inform you that, he is a Liberal:(
