I made a batch of 30-30 loaded with 110gr round nose FMJ, that's supposed to be for the M1 Carbine, crimped with the Lee Factory Crimp die. Do you think this will be safe in the tubular magazine?

I did a lot of looking around on this subject and found that in the past, Remington use to have a factory load called Remington UMC 100gr RN FMJ for the 30-30. The PCMR also use to issue 160gr round nose FMJ for their Winchester 94 and Marlin 36. The only reloading data I could find that actually lists load data for the 110gr RN FMJ was an old Sierra reloading manual.

I have seen round nose ammo that fired while in the magazine tube. It is the reason why they make flat nose bullets...

YT's Forgotten Weapons' Ian McCollum discusses French tubular magazine military rifles and answers why there weren't more in-line detonations. In his view, the extreme conical shape of the French cartridge which put the bullet nose on the base of the next cartridge. When more spring pressure is applied, the bullets move more off-centre.

I remember watching this video before but forgot about it until you mentioned it. I need to rewatch.

The old Dominion/Imperial cartridge company used to load a 170 gr. round nose fmj. They turn up at auction occasionally. I doubt they would have done that if there were a problem. I don't expect there would be a problem, but it's your rifle.

I've shot lots of armscor and privi roundnose 110 gr. R.n. in my 30 30. Have you tried clambering those rounds they look long for the blunt 110s. Anyway remington factory 150 ammo is roundnose I shoot that too

That’s a cool video, but it’s my understanding that 5.56 is loaded with a less sensitive primer. They abused the heck out of the shotgun, but I wonder if a different result would be obtained using a round more typical of a lever gun, but use a fmj/pointed bullet? Just thinking out loud...

I made 4 dummy rounds with the 110gr FMJ to test loading and unloading and if the bullets seat deeper from sitting in the tube mag. So far so good. They're seated to the COL of the load data.

No worries on using round nose FMJ in the 30-30. The PCMR were using CIL 160 gr loads back in WWII in their issue Model 94 Winchesters.
The 30-30 don't produce enough recoil impulse to set off round nose FMJ in a Model 94 carbine. I fired a few mags full of these back in me youth
and they shot rather well.

Spitzer FMJ though could pose a hazard easy enough in a tube mag if a point is centered on the primer of the cartridge ahead of it. Rather flukey
with the tapered 30-30 round in a tube mag, but poo happens from time to time.

Back in the 70's I and my old man witnessed the RC's & fish cops dragging a hunter out of the bush by the heels that had a detonation on the mag tube of his 30-30. Wood or metal frags from the fore-stock or tube or cartridge brass cut his wrist artery on the arm he was holding the front stock with and he bled out in the bush...don't know if he had RN or Spitzer bullets in the gun. I seen the gun when the RC officer carried it out of the bush and across the road in front of us, destroyed front stock & tube were plainly visible.

I wont even shoot RN cowboy loads in a tube magazine after witnessing that.
