FN-49, educate me.

Dieudonné Saive, the chief designer at FN before and after WWII, designed both the fn49 and the FNFAL

If you compare the disassembly diagrams of the two firearms, you will see a lot of similarities.

September 1967, Gun World magazine, "Hunter's Lodge" advertisement :" FN (49) 30.06 Semi-Auto Rifles: Finest semi-automatic ever made! Designed for elite NATO units-too costly to ever duplicate. NRA good $79.00 W/leather sling. VG $10.00 more. Original bayonets $4.00 ! "

SVT1940 - it was quite a few years ago, but I definitely remember it having a two piece firing pin. I would have to say it was my FN-49. The only other surplus self-loader I had was a German G43. The rest were bolt actions.

Ahh ok thanks. I bought a FN 49 egyptian contract last fall and also had 2 pieces firing pin but the spring was broken so i got a new firing pin kit. The new spring is pretty stiff so its unlikely that a slam fire occur now.

Anyone have any idea where the best place to get a new top cover/receiver cover for an 8mm Egyptian SAFN-49? My stripper clip guide is buggered, have to load single round at a time.

How about the two piece firing pin set?
I ordered a new one piece firing pin about 8 years ago for my FN49 when I discovered the original was bent. I believe I got it from Sarco, but not to sure. It is fine, but I want to get the 2 piece firing pin. No need to have a slam fire.

Do any of the Parts companies still ship to Canada?

Numrich in the U.S. has a range of parts for the FN-49 and will ship to Canada. (looks like no 8mm receiver covers though). I just received a bunch of items from them, including both pieces of a two-piece firing pin. Less than a week to Calgary from their warehouse.

Notably, the rear fp I received from them does have the FPSS notch in it, even though the site says they're sold out of that version.

One piece of advice...build a big order from them, as they tack on a $25 international shipping fee. Amortized over a bunch of parts it doesn't hurt as much. Note as well, though, that your order must total less than $200 to avoid triggering an export permit requirement.

Thanks Range Rover.

Just made an order with them.

Too bad about the top covers though.... :(

I really loathe loading single rounds, unlike the quick stripper clip loading with the Hakim! :)

Cheers!

The reason I brought them up, is that I am smug about being the owner of a Hakim, a rifle that almost nobody in this MTV and COD MW generation has even heard of.

Workmanship aside, they are right beside the FN 49 in my books as an example of old-style battle rifle craftsmanship and design, and just as worthy of respect.

Could buy an SKS, nobody outside of the firearms community knows what they are. Underpotrayed in both video games and movies.

Argentina had a bunch confiscated during the Falklands war fiasco .They were rebarrelled to .308 and had 20 rd detachable mags,,,,,,,,,,,,Harold
