fn 49 Egyptian contact

I just got the FN 49 book and the Egyptian models don't have the firing pin safety stop and firing commercial ammo could blow up the gun.
Its a fatal flaw in the Egyptian rifles. Info found on pages 116 & 117 in "The FN 49 The Rifle That Ran Out Of Time" by "R Blake Stevens"

Yes this is why people change the stock firing pin in these guns to copies of the versions used in other variants.

FWIW, the last two 8mm guns to sell on the EE were advertised for $550 and $600 respectively within the last 2 weeks. For all we know they may have sold for something less than that. Both came with goodies and looked to be in nice shape. $600-1000 is on the high end for sure. I would personally never pay that.

My prices are from a bit over a year ago, maybe with the downturned market the demand for the 8mm has gone down a bit. When were FN-49s advertised on the EE in the last two weeks? Were they not in the Milsurps section (didn't see them if they were and I watch that portion pretty religiously)? Which case that could also have lead to a decreased price as your not getting the collectors market.

$1100 is probably a good starting point. You might be able to squeeze a bit more out of it if you are willing to wait for a sale.

That's the top price for a mint condition Venezuelan FN 49, and only if you "really really need it".

Both were in the milsurps EE here. One of them was BTT a couple times before it was marked sold.

Thanks for all the information on the FN . Unfortunately I don't hit the jackpot as it is definitely Egyptian 8mm. Soon as I figure how to post photos I will list the rifle. Since I have your attention any idea what an average condition Mas 1936 post war rifle goes for . Thanks guys .

Would the 8mm versions be worth less due to the firing pin issue, or because cheapo 8x57 ammo is getting harder to find?

Egyptian Fn's where never that high. Going rate is 550-700. If you are willing to pay $1000, I will send you my email for EMT.

The 7mm and 30-06, I would agree. I just sold my 30-06 for $1100.

Some rough values
7mm Venezuelan FN-49 700-1200$
30-06 Belgium, Luxemburg, or Columbian FN-49 900-1500$
8mm Egyptian 600-1000$
7.62 Nato Argentinean FN-49 900-1500$
7.65 Argentinean FN-49 if you have one of these you win the FN-49 Jackpot and could likely ask quite a fair bit as there are next to none left in existence.

Usually the price is somewhere in the middle for the rough price range.

No, just a lot more of them around. Very good value. They have always been on the low end wrt to value.

Also, the older firing pin design makes some people leery. Not everyone likes the Farsi markings. Also, a high percentage of these have poorly fitted beech stocks with plastic buttplates that Century put onto surplus tripped actions. All this gave the whole 8mm variant a bad rap, even the better ones with original walnut stocks. Plus they are by far the most numerous version in Canada.

As mentioned just much more available. They also tend to be in worse condition than the other variants due to harder use.

I personally have next to no interest in acquiring semis anymore, I don't even use the few I have (early bolt actions is where my interest lies, I just find them much more satisfying). The 1000$ would be top dollar which if you had a unissued/brand new Egyptian 8mm FN-49 (and very few Egyptian FN-49s are in that type of condition) I am sure you could find someone to pay that. Again just rough valuations, take from it what you will.

Don't forget people also blowing up there FN-49s by using Turkish surplus in the rifles (not so much a issue anymore as that ammo is mostly gone now).

It doesn't sound like you'd buy one at any price by the way you deride them. $600 for an excellent original shape FN-49 (not a Century abortion) would be a steal of a deal in anyone's book.

Have a FN -49 which I bought 35 years ago and its just sitting in the safe. Wanting to sell what do you think I should list it for on the exchange. I put about 50 rounds threw her in total before that it looked to be new or unissued if that's the term.

Despite the low baller's comments, one thing is certain -The days of crates of milsurps washing up on our shores is dwindling fast. You see this with the recent pricing of Yugo Mausers and K-31s. About the only things going relatively cheap still are the comblock stuff. I stand by my comment - I'd hold out for over $1k if I was in your boots.

Really? You shouldn't talk about things that you know nothing about. Century has built garbage, but of all the fn-49 builds I have seen are good to go. You do no one a service by making posts like yours.

Worked for Century did you?

My point is if the poster has an original to the factory produced rifle in overall excellent, un-screwed with shape, it is going to be worth more than $500-600 - by a long shot.

I'd pay market value. $1000 is not market value for an Egyptian of ANY flavor in 2016.

And that could be a fair statement - for you.
Someone might be willing to pay more and I'm betting there is.

Leave him be Claven. He seems to have taken great offence that someone questioned him.

Not offended in the least bit. I only wish I could get guns as cheap as some of you guys seam to get them.;)
