I have never handled a Parker Hale C3 or 1200 action. Is there any difference between them that would make one preferred over the other for a target (fun) rifle? I know that everyone seems to love Remingtons and there are lots of custom actions but I have long had the itch to have a nice target style rifle made up in 6.5X55. I just like the classic mauser.

I have also looked for a detachable mag assembley for a long action caliber without much success. Any ideas that would handle my Swede?

Thanks.

Use whichever is available. If you want a Mauser actionned rifle, consider the Interarms Mk. X - you will see them around, too. There are others. Any of the commercial Mauser actions will be much less work for your purpose than a military action. The Parker Hale "C" series rifles (1200C, etc.) have a detachable magazine, but the magazines are fairly hard to find, and not inexpensive. There is a detachable system that replaces the floorplate on a military style trigger guard. Numrich (w ww.e-gunparts.com) sells them.

I have a PH 1200 with the detachable mag in .300 Win Mag. Right now it looks like a hideous hunting rifle from the 60's or 70's. I will eventually put on a newer stock with minimal drop for a more modern look. Some day I might even turn it into a C3 clone if I could find one of the C3 wood stocks. I know wood's not as good as synthetic from an accuracy stand point but I just love the C3 in its original configuration.

If you want 6.5 Swede than why not start with a 96 action? They are pretty cheap right now (EAC sellin' these?) and someone would be able to build you a sweet lookin' rifle.

ETA: The nice thing about the Parker Hale is that it uses a trigger safety like the 700, very clean looking and it won't get in the way of a scope like the original 98 safety. Of course you can accomplish the same thing with any 98 action by putting on a Timney trigger and a new bolt shroud.

if you want 6.5x55 look at one of the swede target rifles. Milarm has a couple so has P&S. They are a fine looking target rifle with a heavy barrel, good sights abd cost about $800. Not sure why you would bother with anything else if you want 6.5x55
