In this period of COVID-19, I have plenty of time to visit my safe...
Here is a pair of FN 1922s, interesting mostly due to the fact that serial numbers are consecutive:
A17487 & A17488
The “A” prefix is characteristic of post-liberation pistols in FN Browning factory.
Post-liberation does not mean post-war, since Belgium was liberated in 1944 and war ended in 1945.
The first “A” prefix serial number recordings date from September 13, 1944.
The letter “A” was stamped on the pistols prior to stamping a serial number.
Retired FN employees have stated that the letter was used to indicate “Allemand” (German) to identify when the pistols were produced.
The early A-pistols were made available to GI’s (as liberators).
Then contracts were signed with Belgium, Dutch and French military, until 1946.
Note digit “6” in a square on front trigger guard web (left side) of A17487, meaning (update): it was assembled in 1946.
Both pistols appear in VG/EX condition, with a bright bore, having seen little use.
Wooden grips are typical of German late-war production.
Caliber is 7,65mm.
For your appreciation, fellow collectors.
