FN C1 aka FN L1A1

A buddy who is ex military has two of the ex OPP FN FALs. Wood stock and wood handguard. I've never seen a FAL live before. Other than the mag release everything else was very nice. Even the triggers were good. I wish they weren't prohibited. I'd own a few for sure. Very cool firearm. I really liked it.

Epoxy....are your buddy's a sequentially serialized pair? There were a couple of those floating around.

Oh, and I called about that airsoft FN again, and it was the Thompson that cost $210...the FN was $550. That'll stay on the shelf for now.

NS

I think he said the serial numbers were 4 off from each other. I'll double check about that. Apparently when he bought them they were still in storage grease.

Just a photo with some of my related C1 junk.

Kolt,

The FN pictured there looks the same as the two I saw. He even had the bayonet for them. The wood on them was very nice.

There's also one exactly like that with beautiful wood in the RCMP museum at Depot. Along with a very nice Thompson SMG.

Here is the Colt 1921A as it was displayed in the old museum. I've seen a few Thompsons, and it is the absolute best. With it's provenance, this thing would bring huge dollars, $100,000 ??? It's in pristine/new shape.
I couldn't get that good of a photo with my old 2 mb camera and hand held.

I think your ex-SMG is also a dewat now. Unfortunatley it probably makes more sense now a days.

I believe that leaves only 2, C/A C1 SMGs left in Canada.

If it only saves one child's life, it will all be worth it.

I saw the Thompson in the old museum as well. It was one of my favourite exhibits. That and the German Uboat spy display. I was back in Regina (shudder) a couple of years ago and dropped into the new museum. They have the FN FAL and Tommy gun in the same display case. It was very cool. The new museum is also very beautiful.

I was in the new Interpretive Centre a couple years ago. It is nice, but (In my opinion) there is a bit of wasted physical space. I think they could fill it up with more "stuff". I was talking with one of the museum guys years ago, and they have enough stuff in the basement to change the exhibit completely on a frequent schedule. So again, I'm thinkin', they should get it all out on display rather than getting dusty in a box somewhere.

Fnc1a1

Lots of fond memorys with this weapon.Enjoyed it as a Cadet, then as a reservist. Was sad to see it go in 89-90.The C7 which replaced it was crap.Watched in horror when the magazine dropped out, bayonet snapped in half, and the complete foreguard assembly flew apart while doing bayonet drills in Fort Ord California. Also found it toy like especially when firing blanks with the BFA.The .308 was and still is superior to the .223,more range and more power, sadly were learning this over again at the exspense of our service people. The FNC1A1 was heavy but it could take a pounding and you probably could club several people to death with it if you ran out of ammo, also useful as an extra oar or tire jack.Sad to hear the goverment in its infinite wisdom smelted down the entire war surplus stock.Just when the Canadian Rangers are looking for a .308 RIFLE REPLACEMENT for the Lee enfields????Unfortunately the goverment is scared @#$%less of this weapon due to 3 decades of service and a large segment of the population who know how to use it.P.S. the above mentioned biodegrable, reversible mod also resulted in CHARGES and a !@#$kickinG from the RSM,RSO if you got caught.

I was talking to a retired US Marine while I was in NY two weeks ago, he told me about the time when his battalion would go over to CFB Petawawa and conduct wargames with CF soldiers during the 80's.

He stated how much they loved the Canadian "FAL" rifle, and that all of them in the Marines would rather have it because they simply hated their own M14!

I replied, thats kinda funny because back then most CF soldiers hated the FN-FAL, and now theres a lot of Canadian gun owners who love the M14!

Ironic isnt it :D

If you cant have what you love...love what you have I guess.
I said it before... I'll swap the wife and the Norc for an old SLR....sigh...

I thought the same thing. It seemed like they had more space but less exhibits than before. I would like to see some of the stuff in storage on display as well.

Also I seem to recall the Dragonfly aircraft was gone from out front with the new museum.

funny thing , a similar thing was said about the g3 and the seals- they ctually went about procuring a bunch of those during nam-
it's more a case of "i gotta have something different" than any actual tactical advantage- fit that 14 with an e2 type stock or a beretta para and the erogonmic advantage of the fn goes away- and adjusting for windage is pita on the fn- you do it all from the back sight on the 14

Last time I was there, it was still on the pedestal in front of the old musem building. It's been a few years now, so I don't even know if the building is there.

Apparently there is still one last Colt Thompson in the collection that gets dusted off on the odd occasion to put some 230 hardball down range. Both guns are serial numbered in the Arms and Accoutraments book.

Apollyon,

I guess my hopes have been shattered. Sadly I only have a Restricted PALS

Now that being said, I'm not familiar with the XCR. Enlighten me please. What are the specs? It is not prohibited? What is it you like about it?
I'll do some research if it's good maybe I'll look into one of those instead.

Cheers

contact your mp re this- if enough of us make a noise, look what happened to c-68
remember, the fn is also known under various names throughout the world; springfield armories sells it as the sar-48 or did- you might be able to get an indian one or some other manufacture if we ever get it de-prohibited

OK, so the plane I was thinking of was, I think, a Lockheed Electra??????

Wasn't that the plane that was on the mount in front of the old museum???

Now that I'm getting waaayyyy off the FN topic. Sorry.
