I have been doing some research and I know most of these were destroyed. I know any remaining versions, even the strictly semi automatics, are Prohibited so shortly it will come to the point where all remaining versions will have to be deactivated. Is there any demand for non-deactivated ones here in Canada, (Museums, film companies or holders of the right Prohib license). Also, is there any demand in the U.S. where they can be legally owned and can they in fact be exported. Finally, what is a matching serial number, all original parts one worth on the collector market as a deactivated piece. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

They cannot be exported to the US; that is, they are not importable into that country. For one to be legally privately owned there, it would have to be registered under the NFA. And that door closed over 20 years ago.

There were sales done direct from factory back in the day. We have a 4L rifle here. It cost a pretty penny. So yes there is demand here in Canada. Can't speak to the issue of future legislation.

At one time C1, C2, C1 smgs could be purchased direct from CAL. By current standards the prices were nominal.

In addition to the rifles sold by CAL, there are ex-OPP rifles, and some exported and re-imported.

1- Absolutely, there are still a good number of 12(5) class license holders who are active collectors, and since it was our national variant of the pattern, the C1 sells for at least double what the other commonwealth FAL rifles sell for.

2- Your presumption is false. A C1A1 is considered a machine gun in the USA, and could not be legally imported for civilan ownership. Though it should be possible to get one in for government use, or as a Post-86 dealer sample.

DND/DND museums aren't subject to the FA... so they can hold still working-condition automatic/converted/etc guns.

That's what I would do if I had one and couldn't pass it on to offspring/other recipient.

Smelter/dewat would be the very last item on my list.
