Need some help please.

I'm looking for a deactivated FN FAL, I grew up in South Africa and
this weapon is my all time favorite plus many of my relatives used
them in Rhodesia.

I'm going to see one this morning its for sale for $1200, wooden furniture
being sold by a guy who sells medals and other military historic stuff,
he says it was built in 1972, only info he sent me.

Collectors Source has a British FN L1A1 for $995 and a Belgian version for $1295,
both are deativated. This guy is located in Acton, Ontario but he wont let me
drive out and see his guns, have to buy it based on the photo's he post's,
weird.

Ellwood Epps has a Israeli version for $550, it will cost me $175 for them to
deactivated this one and the time frame would be 4-5 months for the paper
work, I'm not crazy for Israeli stuff. Due to the fact that I dont have a prohibited
license they will not let me touch the rifle or see it in person, I'm still waiting for
them to send pictures of it, weird.

Do these prices make sense to any off you?

Going price for dewat FN is around $500 to $1k depending on condition and whether it would #### & click. Collectors Source is a pricy mail order co but it is legit. Keep an eye out on EE. They do come up from time to time. The cheap ones are likely beat up Indian 1A1 and not the real McCoy FN FAL.

Off topic I know.
But we just had another member from South Africa join us, his name is also Brendan.
Thought that was an interesting coincidence.

Good luck on the FAL hunt!

Weird, there arent that many Brendan's around, this is my real first name, I'll have to put my location or something
to differentiate myself

A friend of mine in Johannesburg uncle scored a brand new FN in Rhodesia for a case of whiskey,
this was around 1979-1980 when white rule was running out of steam and the British expats started
bailing out on mass. FN's were banned in South Africa (civilian use) as was 7.62 x51 but his guy just smuggled
it down to SA. He was a Afrikaner and these guys arent afraid of much.

FN's were never banned here for civilian use (nor was 7.62 Nato). In fact the old govt gave them out farmers, kommando units in the old days during the bush war.
I owned a mint Rhodesian FAL which I recently sold. There are plenty of them around. I know at least 5 guys locally who have one (some more than 1).

"...$1200 is a little steep..." Yeah. Lotta money for a paperweight.
"...he wont let me drive out and see his guns, have to buy it based on the photo's he post's..." Somethin' ain't right about that. I wonder if the rifles are legal.

Ah, a thinking "Melon Farmer" shows up.

This Smart Monkey is 100% correct, I drove up to view this $1200 Indian or Pakistani FN FAL and
it was so hard to enjoy the experience, I tried but it had no life left in it, it had been re-finished
by a drunk guy but more importantly with every part of the weapon frozen it just didn't feel right
in my hands. Not enough going on here to fill the void of my ###less marriage.

This attempt to fill my FN FAL need has flat out failed.

Collectors source is online sales only. I live right near there and can not pickup anything in person. So needless to say I avoid buying from him. I wonder how many sales this policy costs him. Sounds to me he's more of a collector than a serious business as his prices are very high to.

Well, I'm really not sure where a comment like this came from. Al and Fred run a very reputable business and have done so for a long time.
