FN FAL Deactivated

'Tis a sad state of affairs that some in Canada are not allowed to own a rifle that has served so many countries for so many years ( Canada included C1A1) .Just the fact that this firearm is safer and better built than the Norinco 305 should be enough to own it. Similar operation system, detatachble box magazine, easier to maintain. Yep I prefer the FAL , my FAL, and instead of settling for a messed over de-wat you should all be writing your M.P., P.M. and everyone else to repeal bill C-68 . A firearm is a firearm and should not be prohibited because it has a 105 mm barrel ( handgun) looks mean ( FAL and others) or restricted because , well just because ( no real reason as that is how bureaucrats think). This is mine, it is a 12.5 prohib. Belgian and it still works.

Well, I'm really not sure where a comment like this came from. Al and Fred run a very reputable business and have done so for a long time.

I concur-would you want some dude on the internet cruising up to your private residence to view your firearms ??

Bumpted into a M305 shorty over the weekend at this outfit http://www.accuracyplus.biz/, nobody else within 125km from Toronto
had one, this was purley by accident as I was heading north to shoot for four days, handling this weapon vs a $1200 Dewat Indian
FAL a few days earlier was no competition between a dead rifle and operational weapon.

I agree with your route but we are younge stupid people who are used to immediate gratification, "Hard Work and Thrift" were the
Mantra of our parents generation but not so much with us. Your approach requires "patience" and this aint gonna fly with this
crowd and no doubt they will suffer accordingly.

When I buy a used car I drive to the owners HOME and check it out, I dont buy used cars on the internet from
China and pay to have them shipped to me, sight unseen. I work for my money and it is not always easy to bring home the bacon.

Not sure how this internet site works but I have one warning so far, not sure why.
I only bought a can of REM Clean from the store I mention, but I have plans in my monkey mind.

Weird thing is I wore my new XL Gun Nut's T shirt into this store which turned out not to be
the best idea in the world, I'm still trying to figure out this game but as a casual shooter, ammo
buyer I dont really have any issues with anybody who enjoys the Sport of Shooting, either
way the owners were very pleasant and helpful and I will return to buy stuff that I can touch
with my hands before putting my money down.

I recall any FN's I saw or handled in South Africa and Rhodesia were plastic stocked and not wood. Were most FN's there plastic stocked?

Rhodesia had wood stock Brit L1A1 left over when she was part of the Empire.

The FAL my friends uncle brought down from Rhodesia in 1979 was brand spanking new and it had plastic
furniture. All the guys I grew up with in South Africa served in the army but I cant remember the furniture
of the gun at that time. I do recall seeing photo's of both, I think. SA had good relations with Israel and
at some point they shifted to the Galil type weapon, 5.56mm. When I was last in SA I was at a age
were you were more concerned with getting laid and riding dirt bikes.

I could be wrong but I believe towards the end of the Rhodesian "Bush War" the only country
supplying Rhodesia with weapons was Portugal. Every other country put sanctions on them.
Sad really, Rhodesia was the bread basket of Southern Africa, now the people are hungry

Thanks for the heads up SF but I'm gonna score a M305 as a FAL substitute, after I handled
a Dewat FAL it was like being in bed with a dead women, no fun at all.

In Rhodesia, the semi auto only Brit L1A1 were mostly relegated to BSAP and army reserve units since troopies in the bush preferred the edge of full auto FN FAL. You are correct to say that unlike the socialist west, Israel was a de facto friend of Rhodesia & SA as evidenced by their adoption of UZI as the standard SMG in Rhodesia & SA army. Israel also clandestinely assisted Rhodesian army to obtain 10 badly needed Huey choppers against leftie UN sanction. Toward the end, Portugal unloaded its surplus G3 to Rhodesia after Lisbon abruptly quit Angola and Mozambique leaving Rhodesia to fend for itself against the commies.

Your post makes sense to me because I saw farmers who had both FAL's and G3, the Father had the FAL and the younge son
had a G3 which didn't make sense to me but now I understand why from your post.

I was at a Barbaque/Braaievlies in Umtali,Rhodesia around 1980 and my uncle showed up with his family
with a small submachine gun in one hand and two mags in the other, it could well have been a Uzi
but no fuss was made of carrying a weapon so I didn't get a close look.

My grandfather had to serve so much time each month, I think the rule was till you were 60 years
old and we mailed him a Aimpoint (Red Dot) sight system from Johanesburg for his FAL because
his eyes were not good.

These are old memories for me and I was much younger,
how come you know so much? I'm leaving town for the
weekend so if you do reply I'll only get to it on Sunday evening.

There is a guy in Calgary who has the largest Rhodesian collection I have seen. He had a bunch of dewatted Rhodesian FN with the funky paint job on them.

Rhodesians were camo painting their FNs long before Americans and others began to do the same thing.

I recall seeing those. Captured terrorists said the one thing they could pick out was the rifles so they started getting camoed

I wish I still had my "Rhodesian Gook Zapper" tee shirt.

Wore my Canadiangunnutz tee shirt in Riverdale, Toronto out on the town and nobody
had a beef with me. My neighborhood is full of communist CBC people. We will see
how this goes. At least it will keep me on my toe's and I'll keep Lifting as a safe guard.

security issue-dealer exercising 11th commandment-CYA-if he gets rolled for a firearm-the present firearms laws hold HIM responsible.. "unsafe storage" etc.-in a perfect world -the bad guy gets the rap- unfortunately we ain't there yet...
