fn fal dilemma

mine never was a converted full auto or surplus rifle. My pal reads 12.5.it was an import from belgium, imported by steyr secaucus, new jersey.I'd wanted one ever since I'd seen one and especially this particular model.actually I like all of them.thanks for your feedback on this issue,if this was the only firearm that I owned it would very difficult to open the gun safe and not take it out and shoot it.I've got others that I've gotten attached to as well.thanks again.

Well, If I had the dough I'd be interested in picking it up from you. But first wait a bit.....you may once again be able to take it out again. We'll just have to see what's in the upcoming legislation, and if any of our past support has any influence on Harper and Co.

If you sell that , you will not be grandfathered any longer.
I would never do that.
Also, everyone says you can't shoot them at a range.
Not so, problem is you can't get a ATT to take them to a range.
If you could get them there , you can shoot them.

Save your pennies up and buy a building lot that shares a boundary with your favorite range? ha ha ha.

thanks for all the advice on this subject. It would be difficult for me to sell this rifle. For all of you who own an fn or a derivative you know what I am talking about.I guess it is a bit of a sentimental thing.great rifle.no, really great rifle.

I hope you guy's don't hate me...

It isn't mine, but I got to have a turn. Very quiet for a .308. A 1960's vintage NZ Army L1A1. They're getting more scarce and expensive over here. Back when they were sold off to the public, the army was practically giving them away.

That was actually one of the parts of C-301 that was cut out for C-391 (which was still a very close call, as you all remember)...

The FN C1A1 was the first rifle I ever fired, as an Army cadet back in the day. I have dreamed of owning one since that day many years ago, but I fear I will never realize that dream.

Keep your FN; you will regret selling it.

P.S. NavyShooter, those are some absolutely gorgeous rifles! If you ever need anybody to stop over with a bottle of scotch for some rifle cleaning/fondling, you just give me a ring! :p

Ok, I'm from the states and y'all will probably think I'm an idiot for asking these questions. Are you guys saying if you own a FN/FAL,L1A1,SLR that you cannot shoot it at all if it is stored at your home? Does it have to be demilled or inoperative? If it is stored at the range, it is ok to shoot at the range but can't be taken anywhere else? The Gov't won't let you transport it at all?

What the hell happens if the range closes? How do you get to keep your rifle? Do they confiscate it or bury it onsite? I hope I'm misunderstanding the issue. Sorry if this is a waste of your time to answer.

You may well ask. There is little logic to it, this is the idea our former Liberal overlords came up with to keep the children safe. The guns are live and usable, but cannnot be transported to authorized shooting ranges to be shot. f:P:
Guns are not stored at ranges.

I refuse to mothball my AKs or FNs or any 12.5 PROHIB rifle.

Ive made up the loss of legal use of my 12.5s with AR15's and M14/M305's .. I just keep on buying guns with the intent to keep. laws change .. as does public opinion. Its been proven that legal possession is really 9/10th of the law.

Dont let a Liberal ###-bag determine what firearms you buy now! (no offence to bags)

In the 90's I was told by people that if you buy this.. or that .. "THEY" would take them away. *^%% that. I managed to keep 12.5 / 12.6 and only missed out on 12.3 because i was a student with limited budgets...

Every CZ, XCR and M305 is a step in the right direction. Just buy what you want and make legal responsible gun ownership a reality in Canada.
Lets not whine about the past.:HR:

I would love to shoot my L1A1s and Daewoo K1A1's ... but a 18.5" M14 and an AR15 will have to do ...

Back to the OP's question; so, I guess with all these replies, you're keeping your (Match Grade, FFS!) FAL? Sounds like a sweetie; I remember drooling over these in the back of Shooter's Choice, all I got were C2's and Israeli HBAR FN's... which was just keen, thanks much. Ah, the 7.62 Galil's... don't get me started... too late...

AHH! I see! Thanks cantom! Sorry for steering the thread in a different direction. I guess when I saw the picture of a FN style rifle at the range I got confused. I see now it was a picture from NZ. I see some of you guys have some very nice rifles. Wish I had the $ for more. I only have a CAI R1A1 (inch pattern) but it works great. I guess I'm lucky I can shoot mine. The State of Georgia even builds shooting ranges for us to use for free! The only restriction is no full auto fire.

That's a crying shame. I think we all need to stand up against this horse ####, even if you don't shoot semi auto's or appreciate military rifles. It's divide and conquer, and eventually its yours on the chopping block.

Same boat

here I am with my head in my hands pondering two divergent alternatives.I am the proud owner of an fn fal match rifle.I bought it used about 20 years ago.put a few boxes of ammo thru it,handloaded and shot some more but really wasn't happy with the accuracy.Took a look down the bore with a bore scope and saw some serious erosion in the first inch and a half of the barrel.I then took my pride and joy to the gunsmith for a new barrel.fitted a new shilen match barrel. In the meantime new legislation passes which means I cannot shoot my favorite rifle.that's right, brand new shilen barrel, not one bullet down the pipe.everytime I go to the safe to get my other rifle/pistol and go to the range I can only stare longingly at what could have been.what do you guys think, sell it and move on or wait for the laws to change, please advise.

I feel your pain, I picked up an HK91 about a million years ago, it ended up as a 12-5, registered etc but as it didn't come out of the safe I didn't follow the rules too closely. Late last year I thought I'd take it to the range after all this time but lo and behold, can't get the ATT! Of course, it's silliness that an M14 has no such restrictions........

No restrictions.......for now.
