fn fal dilemma

Back in the early 90's I used my L1A1 in military style matches. The DCRA members were given military ammo to use in their matches then. Alas, those days are gone. Can't say I ever won any matches but it's a nice feeling hitting a 600 m target with the old girl.

All I can do now is take her out and tell people how much fun it used to be. Maybe some day...

PS - For any liberal big brothers watching, the magazine is pinned to five rounds.:(

L1A1 (Lithgow and Ishapore) have been replaced by Norinco M14s....

One is PROHIBITED, other NON-RESTRICTED

both shoot the same 7.62 NATO round in pinned 5 round mags ...

Le sigh,
These threads are depressing.

I'd really like to get my hands on one of those ridiculous .25 half inch barrel pea shooters. No such luck.:(

Oooooh! Show and tell! Can I play?

Here's my two India Ishapore FALs. Top one has Canadian issue forestock, pistol grip, sights, bayonet and piston. Bottom one is still all-Ishapore. Bolt carriers are stored elsewhere, in my safe, so not in the picture.

Way back when I could still take 'em out and shoot 'em, they were fantastic. Accurate, comfortable to shoot, a whole bucketful of fun. Now they decorate my gun storage. Sigh.....

Who knows? Originally, Bill C-19 was intended to change things to allow us to take our prohibs out to the range, but I see it's not in the bill as tabled now. Hopefully this will be re-visited...

There is a provision to take it to the range but the RCMP told the provinces to quit issuing them . It's called a "special permit to possess " . I used take my paratrooper to the range .

Belgian commercial 12.5 (pinned mag of course ). There is also provision for a permit to own hi-cap mags . Again RCMP won't issue them !

..."Special Authorization to Possess"...killed as a result of the omnibus C10A bill.

I'm the OP of this topic and my rifle is a FN FAL Match 308 manufactured in Belgium, imported by steyr secaucus,ny.f'n nice rifle.my pal reads 12.5.makes my eyes water when I crack the safe to get a gun....any gun except that one.

To the OP: keep it.

I have the same feelings and frustrations.

I shot C1A1's in army cadets then reserves. Loved it and bought a L1A1. Had a great time with it for many years and put a lot of ammo through the barrel in the bush at up to 600 yards.

Now my sons are curious and I try to explain how the FN's were just more fun to shoot than the norc M14s.

And just to add insult to injury, we have to pin the mags to 5 rounds, on a mag for a rifle that can't leave the house.

Was it the lieberals who OIC'ed it into the safe forever or was it the red tories under mulroney?

The real irony is that in my letter I was told I could no longer transport to the range but a trip to the gunsmith was OK. Why would I take it to a gunsmith? Oh maybe to dewat it? Not going to happen.
