I remember the old days of the C1 , C2 . The CF 'issue' ones for sale here and there are of the 8 'lima' series and were bought, I believe, for and by the OPP and these are the ones you will find for sale, rarely.

I remember in our armoury seeing FN C1 , C2 stamped from the 1950's to the 1960's.......Thinking they were antiques:p

Not all the 8L's went to the OPP. I was issued one at my unit. This rifle was only used for the range and competitions. We had 5 of the 8L's series that were only issued to the rifle team. We had other rifles issued for field use.

Thanks for the surprise, I just spilled my coffee on my laptop:mad:

I am so envious, I used to think my old c1a1 was so cool, then I see that.

Does your wife get mad when your trying to cuddle and that keeps bumping her on the head??:D

CIA1 and Ishaphore IA1 Were My Favourite Rifles.

Both these rifles were a lot of fun on the DND Ranges during the 1970s and 80s for me. I competed and shot at the ORA APM and DCRA NSCC in 1970 and 1971 with the Browning Commercial version of the FN FAL and with a DCRA QM stores issued CIA1 at the Connaught Ranges in Ottawa as a civilian in the 1970s version of CFSAC.

For whatever reason with the extra long stock the CIAI just didnt seem to kick all that much. Musta been because I need a 14&1/2" pull or better.

Also in the early 1980s the Indian IA1s at $125.00 or so apiece with some basic upgrades gave some good practice time on the 500 yard DND Range at the Lakehead. Have pleasant memories of being able to make the 400 yard or 500 yard laminated steel plate impact target with its centre measuring a foot square constantly rock through 20 shots with iron sights shooting prone or do the same at 200 or 300 yard from offhand or kneeling.

One thing I did find out was that with a suitable scope mount the Ishaphore did very well with a 3X9 power scope at 500 yards.

All I can say is that it would have "helped" IF more people as Civilians had "embraced" these rifles or shot them with the DCRA in Service Rifle.

In 1971 I do remember how the Regular Force Members remarked at the end of their Service Rifle Matches, "Here comes the DCRA with their squirrel rifles".

That fact of life never really ever changed and for decades the C!A1 were not part of the TR action at all. Indeed why would they be with the as issued sights and their grouping capacity?

Well we dont have to be concerned about that anymore,,on ANY Range eh!

It is blatantly obvious that CIA1 or FN FAL or Ishaphores were NOT made to be Target Rifles BUT Battle Rifles or Service Rifles

In the 1960s-70s-80s-90s "competitive TR quest for accuracy" they were left on the sidelines of competitive rifle practice and as a result of this "disuse in a sporting or recreational sense" as well as the escalting political factors are now "lost for good" unless there is a full court legal press at whatever level.

Indeed the Federal Liberals passed a motion at the "Dion Decision 2006 Convention" to ban ALL Semi Automatic Firearms in Canada.

Based on what took place from 1960s to the 1990s with the FN FAL class of rifles, is it fair to say that the December 2006 Federal Liberal Leadership Convention shows what the REAL (ANTI)SOCIAL Engineering AGENDA IS: BAN CIVILIAN OWNWERSHIP OF FIREARMS..

The Utter Irony Of such a Federal Livberal Party Policy is not loss on me on the 90th Anniversary of Canada's Birth of Nationhood at Vimy Ridge April 9th, 1917. For examply Deputy Liberal Leader MP Michael Ignatieff noted today what an uphill Battle it was for the 110,000 Canadians there.

Three of those Canadians there were my ancestors. One of them went up Vimy Ridge with a Lewis Gun and as many drum magazines as he could carry. He threw everytime else away to concentrate on the Mission..to keep his Section of the Fighting 93rd alive to get to the top of the Ridge.

It seems that "once upon a Birth of Nationhood Time" the Government of Canada did place its implicit trust in its Citizens to have fully automatic firearms in the Times of both War and Peace.

For example the Kenner Collegiate Cadet Corps I belonged to from 1954 to 1958 some 50 years ago had four fully operational Bren Guns which we trained with and knew how to load or strip down and reassemble.

The Central Idea Seemed to Be to ABLE to Stand On Guard for Canada EH...

Well I agree "That Was Then and This Is Now" although yesterday Our Foe took SIX Canadians Soldiers Lives...

Well do you really BUY the idea that Civilians should not have any semiautomatic firearms as the Federal Liberals think along with the Ontario Liberals really wanting to ban handguns in Ontario.

Ever think of Your Browning A-5 or Rem 1100 or Colt 1911A1 as a DEWAT?

Ever think that Premier Dalton McGinty would want you to keep in your possession that S&W Mk II Hand Ejector .455 that your Great Grandfather took up Hill 172 or the Walther P-38 your Grandfather brought back as battlefield pickup from the Falaise Gap?

Or is this the First Time you heard about Hill 172 or the Falaise Gap?

Surely the Federal Liberals and their chosen 1993 Attorney General MP Allan Rock and all the rest saw that what the FN FAL class of rifles were determined by their Orders In Council to be 12(5) Prohibited Arms.

Now in 2007 they are "prohbited right off Any range" as the Liberal conceived non-sensical Bill C-68 firearms control has coninued unabated with its sublte? "eventuall ban em all blanket approach"..one that REALLY wants any and all semi automatic shotguns, rifles and pistols of ANY model and once that is achieved well look at those pump action rifles..the LIBERAL GUN BAN LIST will never end..

Basically you just cant take your FN FAL or Ishaphore ANYWHERE anymore! No sporting usage right?

As Canadians we have indeed lost a lot from the fact that today in order to shoot Canada's CURRENT Service Rifle you have to have a RESTRICTED firearm as well as all the attendant permits!

Not Many Do Eh!

"History Does Repeat Itself" IF we dont heed its lessons.

In this case it is how by default in the 1970s to 1990s period the FN FAL class of rifles were prohibited.

And Now in 2007 the Federal Liberals Really Really Want to Ban ALL Semi Automatic Fireams. IN a Minority Govt situation the Opposition could ram through their own Bills and Get the New Government to Enact it or not..

What to Do? Well striving to keep PM Stephen Harpers Government as the Government of Canada is the first step in my opinion. Helping them to form a Majority Government in 2007 or 2008 is the Next Step!

Thats what I see in the pictures of all these dormant FN FALs in this thread....Avoid Like the Plaque They Are in Terms of Firearms LAWS the "Ever Ready Natural Born Firearms Prohibiting Liberal Party of Canada".

Gotta go. Am gonna phone the Sports Store to see IF you can still buy handgun ammo in Liberal Queens Park Government ONTARIO...oh yes an October 2007 Election there too!

"Yes Viriginia.I am soooo old I can remember what fun it was to handgun hunt in Ontario or fire the Bren Guns at Camp Borden in the 1950s or my own Ishaphore IA1 in the 1980s..with those all gone I guess it is time to concentrate on building a golf cart to commute to the mall.

OR SHALL WE RESIST THE LIBERAL INEVITABLE MISSION TO BAN FIREARMS IN CANADA EXCEPT FOR THE POLICE OR MILITARY? (Attorney General Allan Rock, 1993)
