There are a number of black rifles that are not prohibited, even some that are not restricted, but none exactly like an FN.

Prohibited 12(5). I don't know of anything remotely similar that is available.

The gun is descended from the FN 49 aka SAFN, so you might check one of those out. I have never tried one, so I don't know if the action is similar or not.

I've got the Australian L1A1 version, and I don't see what the big deal is (mind you, I own one :D).
They're heavy muthers. They shoot very well, and are pretty accurate. But they're freakishly long & weigh a freakin' ton. My investment in plastic furniture netted me a coupla ounces in weight savings. Wasn't even worth it.
Seeing as I can't even take the damn thing to the shooting range, I've been tempted to (professionally) lop a few inches of the reeeeeeeally long barrel in an effort to make it lighter and possibly more awesome-looking.

Alas, I recieved death threats from Black Gun enthusiasts on this site the last time I mentioned doing the above proposed mods. I now live in fear for my life. Therefore, I will NOT, repeat, I will NOT be doing any such mods to my L1A1 :D

DAMN! All this time,I thought I had an original, "Petey-specific" brainstorm of an idea :D

Tell me, how do they shoot after having been shortened? And, what's the equivalent of $1800 Kiwi pesos in US or Canadian funds LOLOLOL?

we got about $0.75 canadian for every one of ours .. so by my terrible poor and shabby mathematics around $1400 . keeping in mind everything costs more than it should here
and like a chopped m14 they still preform well, louder with more jump . but you probably werent shooting out past 400 meters with it regularly were you ?

there are also some 3rd party heavy contour barrells around for accuracy .. some are quite nice

Chop the barrel, if you want to replace it in the future it isn't much more trouble to replace than the ar-15 barrels. I have cut several down to 16.25 and they balance much better and have functioned fine.

My math has them at about 1350 Cdn... I could really go back to NZ... On my flight into Nelson the scenery was incredible....

At least you knew that if you were carrying an FN FAL in an unfriendly neighbourhood, you'd be able to put down the rabid creatures with one round, and if you ever did run out of ammo, the rifle was a tough enough club.

Not like these mattel toys of today, with the poodle rounds.

My signature line says it all!

(Long and heavy, forsooth!)

:)

Hey hey HEY! Watch it with the Poodle slanderin', boy! :slap:

I'll have you know that my PitPoodle is a born-to-kill attack dog with many missing cats/small children to her credit. See fer yerself....

In this 1st pic, she's in "pounce mode. She has made visual contact with a perceived threat and has locked her target aquisition system on the perp.

In this pic, she has lunged forth in a deadly throat attack. The perp died quickly, thankfully. One thing I do NOT condone is making anyone/anything writhe in pain and suffer endlessly.

Please retract your earlier slanderous & derogatory statement in regards to poodles. Now! :D

I meant no offence to your personal poodle, Sir.

Your canine companion is clearly a beast to be feared and respected.

I can state with great feeling, as a former veterinary technician...

POODLES BITE!

;)

Honestly, unless you have particular affection for the Rhodesian civil war, or the Falklands thingy (or the Belfast thingy) there really isn't much about the FN that merits the awe in which it is held (especially here). The damned things are heavy, difficult in thick brush, or tight quarters- (house clearing's a treat trust me) and have edges where there should not be edges. That said since it's what I learned on and I would carry one despite it's short comings - I just don't get the younger generation's love for the beast. Maybe it's 'cause they never had to run with one held above their heads wearing a beret with the liner removed and the mag point downward? (I swear there's still a divott there)

like the AK , it has its short comings too but i want one just bcos i not allowed to have it . BTW: whats a divott?

must be the area of the head, which is now gone, where the mag keeps hitting the head...

I'm assuming its a golf reference...

a divott is when u take a chunk out of something. most commonly used in golf .

i could have got one, but ended up with an m14 .. i really like the L1A1 or FAL .. nice rifle, the one ive shot was nice to shoot, good setup, i like the sights, looks sweet, uses the right calibre ( yeah thats right, i said it :D ) and is hard wearing
