Fn Fal

The aforementioned "straight pulls" are expensive garbage.

as of now our prohibs are just wall hangers if we were to adopt a "straight pull" system (fat chance) then it wouldnt cost much to disable the gas system , regardless how it perform thereafter , at least we will be able to take it out to the range and shoot it .

Undergiver,
We can"t have self loading centrefires, only manual.(except pump action rifles, which are more "evil" than lever action!)
We can have bolt action, or lever. Calibre ususally up to .30, as it"s hard to find anywhere approved for anything bigger(except black powder or pistol cal carbine.Handguns can"t be bigger than .455.
We can have sound suppressors and hi capacity magazines.
Here in Northern Ireland we can still have handguns, (I just sold my Hi power 9mm with a 30 shot mag and 7x15 shot mags.) .32 or 25 cal pistols and barrels as short as you like. Once you have a pistol on ticket for target shooting, you can take it to any approved club without needing an ATT.
As for the IRA, did"nt you know they decommissioned all their guns? They put them under the pillow and the tooth fairy gave them all seats in our shiny new parliment(I"m moving to Canada on friday)
As for converting a semi to a manual, the law here states that a gun must be built as a manual, not converted. Pulling the piston out would"nt make a self loader into a manual op, at least not in the eyes of the law.

That is a DSA-58 FAL in the background. 21" Barrel, Medium Contour. 11.5lbs unloaded. It's heavy, it's a beast, and it's neck and neck with my Vz.58 that you see there for "Favorite Personal Firearm." It's balls-accurate (0.8 MOA @ 100M) and can whittle it's way through 5, 20rd. mags of 7.62x51 in no time, and still continue sustained, accurate fire; no problem (Thank God for the "Purse" handle). I took it out just this last weekend to a private shooting range and made one hell of a dust storm with it. It's a beast to be sure, but a ###y beast. I absolutely love it, and the adjustable gas regulator, and large recoil spring put it over the top for "best .308 rifle ever made" in my book. I'd take it over a G3 or a M-14 any day. Just my opinion here.

P.S. I like that long look. I think rifles today look like elongated pistols in some regards. I like that long-tom look and functionality that our fore-bearers used. I've seen shortened FAL's and they just don't look right to me. Give me the old way every time. New stuff usually claims a lot and delivers little. Older designs usually do what they say they are going to do. If length is the trade-off, then it's fine by me.
