I have read conflicting information on the legality of a Pistol chambered in the FN5.7 round in Canada, but can not really find any information on it.

Is it legal?
And if Yes, what manufacturers make a pistol chambered in this round? and where is the best place for ammo.

Thanks,

FN's the only one's that make anything in 5.7x28mm.

FN Five Seven & the P90/PS90.

The pistol is perfectly legal, they were the super fad on here for a little bit.

Quite a few were on the EE.

The ammunition for the firearm is where it gets sketchy, the as is SS190 rounds are AP, an prohibited, there is SS196 variant, that is the non AP type that is available in America, but for up here it is scarce like dodo birds.

People have resorted to having to reload casings bought in bulk from the USA an they have had ton's of fun with that.

That's about all I remember off hand.

I believe 5.7mm firearms are legal in Canada (the Five-Seven being the only pistol that fires the cartridge of which I'm aware), and it's just that the majority of ammunition available for it is illegal, with only one "sporting" or "target" round having been deemed legal for civilian use (the SS190? can't remember).

edit: Apparently Grove knows what he's talking about. Ignore my post. lol

Hey Jeff,

I just bought a FN FiveseveN from questar, one of the site sponsors. It arrived last week. The gun is legal and there are certain loads of the 5.7 ammo that are allowed to be imported into the country. FN belgium and FNUSA are the only two that actually manufacture the rounds right now.

When this gun first came out the SS190 rounds were all that they had and they were AP... so they were a NO-NO.

Things have changed significantly.

I have a lead on brass and am thinking I might do the loading thing just because of the cost of the loaded ammo... I havent found any reasonably priced yet.

There is supposed to be a shipment of 5.7 coming in very soon (from what I've heard permits already approved). Good news if you've got one. All I could find out is that the dealer is on the West Coast.

If you buy one, I'd love to come with you to the range sometime to try it out. I've been wanting to blast a Five Seven for several years now. :)

Shot one several years ago just prior to them becoming available. Some FN reps came to Vancouver, B.C. to put on a demo. Lots of muzzle blast but beyond that not very memorable.... ;)

I heard this from Mark at Questar also...
