just looking for members shooting experience with this pistol. my wife would like one and i thought i'd put this out there to see if there is any thing about this item we should be aware of.

i know they run around 1300.00
i know they are not cheap to run

but how do they shoot and feel?

thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

I like the feel of the gun in my hand... not sure what a woman might think.
I havent found any ammo yet to try (at a reasonable price)... so I cant help ya there...

Everything that I have heard about them is that they shoot nice... just the ammo is rare and pricey...

FN Five-Seven

Shot one just after they first came out when some FN reps did a demo in Vancouver, B.C. back in the day..... Nothing about it makes me want to spend the money on one or the ammo.... I can have more fun and punch a lot more holes in paper for the same coin with what I have in the battery right now.

IMHO the only reason to own one is to be able to say you have something that the average shooter on the range doesn't. You get to a point in your life when stuff like that just makes you say..... meh.....

But if it somehow floats your boat then go for it, it's your dough. ;)

The Five-seven does shoot an interesting round, and quite a flame - like a dragon! There isn't a lot of recoil, so its easy to shoot. I am interested to see how it shoots on the 100yard range. Other than that, the ammo is quite expensive - I just paid $1.50 a round for some shipped - and it is hard to find. Thats a lot of money for target practice. I would expect the price to come down as more dealers start importing the Five-sevens and ammo.

There are other options you might want to consider. You can get the same effect from an AR-15 pistol - like the BM Carbon 15 or the RRA LAR pistol in .223 (a more common and low cost round) which produces much more flame and a little more recoil. Then theres the Dlask Rem 870 8.5" pistol - that suckers a flame thrower for sure and the recoil is quite bad-a$$ - makes you want to buy a knox stock!

thanks for the assistance everyone. who ever said 10 bucks a shot was kidding right? its not like its a .50bmg, its just a little thing.

the reason my wife was interested is due to the reported low recoil and its ability to shoot flat to 100 yards.

i like the idea of this gun, and will continue to gather info on it and its ammo.
thanks again all.

Every review I have read says the gun and the round are a joy to shoot and easy to hit the target, if I was rich I would buy one, but if you are not I suspect the wife will like a fine .22cal target pistol.

10 bucks is a joke... I was seeing things around the 1.50-2 per round - if you can find it.

I am going to wait and see if anything creeps up... it is only 15-20 a box in the states when you find a good deal on it.

One of the guys that works at Reliable in Vancouver was telling me the other week that they are getting some Five Sevens in. My first question was, "Are you going to be getting the ammo in too?" He laughs... "Yah, we are going to be getting some ammo too."

If and when that happens, I would recommend Five Seven owners go and buy up everything they can carry out of the store. If you don't somebody else will. The ammo will only be there for a day or so. Everything to do with ammo has been nutz lately. Even 9mm - the Honda Civic of ammo - has been a bit dodgey on selection and availability. People that are shooting .45GAP, .357SIG, and (the ultimate) 5.7x28, I hope you have guns in more readily available calibres as well - or your shooting time is going to be pretty limited.

I hate take any pleasure from other gun owners trials and tribulations (Lord knows we all have parts and "supply" problems in this country in this sport) but I couldn't help but chuckle after Questar got a bunch of Five Seven's in, sold them all right away, and then within a few days there were a bunch of "WTB - 5.7x28 ammo" adds in the EE. Yah, like that is going to work. There are just so many people out there with a case of spare 5.7x28 sitting around in the garage. But like I say... I feel ya... what else is a guy going to do? Somebody has to get that ammo into the country and the average weekend shooter doesn't have the time or the know how.

Is there at least a way to reload that stuff? The casings must be damn near worth their weight in gold, at least to a Five Seven owner. I'm thinking that there must be a commonly available bullet that you can load into those cases. For the civy market you almost wonder why not just do it as 5.56x28 and make the reloading people happy. I guess that is not the big Euro firearms consortium way of doing things though.

O.k., this is interesting... not exactly straight from the horses mouth... but Wikipedia is saying that the bullets are the same dimensions as 5.56x45:

5.7x28 mm SS197SR (left) and 5.56x45 mm XM193 (right) size comparison. Note that both bullets are 5.69 mm (.224 inch) in diameter]]

Keep your cases and reload .223REM bullets? You reloading gurus... will that work?

The projectiles are .224; if you can find dies and data, yes. Wikipedia says the SS197SR sporting ammunition uses Hornady 40gr V-Max bullets, which are definitely not hard to find.

Believe it or not, there are some people with spare 5.7x28 sitting around somewhere. The 5.7x28 fairies I suppose!

The ammo will start to flow in to the country in bulk and the price will eventually come down to more reasonable levels. What else can you do? Stay up all night worrying about it?

Sounds like there's a pretty solid niche waiting to be filled by a professional reloader.

the five seven forum from the states has all the info you need on how to reload...

and yeah, its just a 224 and primers...

now we're talking. thanks for the great information everyone. i never minded reloading back in the day, i may have to dig a bit deeper on this one.
they are supposed to shoot real nice though, so that may make it a endeavor worth following.
