FN FS2000: Ok or don't go there...?

If you reload and your not absolutely set on 5.56 have a look at the RFB.

It's non-resrticted, awesome trigger, much smaller than the FN, and it doesn't look like a star trek phaser rifle (although after a few mods, it looks pretty good).

If it was a choice between the FN and the tavor, I would probably take the FN just because of the Tavor's trigger.

Just my opinion however...

I agree that the RFB is another good option... It is a bit smaller than the FS2K, but is is heavier - and quite difficult to get without paying a significant premium, or waiting till perhaps fall. The trigger on the RFB is excellent, vastly superior to the Tavor. Fit and finish on the polymer seams where the two parts of the gun meet needs a little end user filing to make it perfect though...

If you could ever own a IWI Tavor, you would part with your Belgium waffle maker in a second i bet.:D

Ya, but that Belgium waffle maker has seen combat in Libya (well, by pro-Gadhafi members). I saw one of the Gadhafi guys running around with one.. looked absolutely bizzare with the uniform he was wearing -- cuz you know, warfare is all about looks ;) I heard recently that FN is in hot water for selling to Libya, and it looks like 400 F2000's made their way there. I hope I can find a photo!

Here is a good picture I just saw:

Even though in this pic the senator is talking about outlawing 30-round mags in the US.

LOL! Man, I'm so out of it lately I'd fail the Hooked on Phonics program.
I said 'loose' the Tavor;)

The FN's ejection system and safety work a bit better I think and are both ambi. The FN's accuracy is excellent for a semi auto, while so far I've been pretty unimpressed with the Tavor.
Overall though, they are both pretty decent systems worthy of keeping in the 'collection'.

Tavor vs. FS2000 Head-to-Head

Having owned several of each, this is just a quick comparison with some personal observations (I currently own both). Based on personal preference and end use, you will probably assign more or less value to certain aspects or attributes.
Disclaimer: Weights are factory specs, and will be slightly heavier with the longer barrels (more so for the FS2000). Lengths are fairly accurate.

Tavor TAR-21
Summary: The Tavor offers the best overall value because it includes an M21 optic (worth ~$450). It's the lightest and most compact, and features the best ease-of-use 'out-of-the-box'. Ambidextrous features are good, although this requires a left-hand bolt and switching the charging handle. It has limited rail space for optics and accessories, although you can mount a bipod directly to the hand guard (aftermarket rail systems are available). While it will accept any AR magazine, most don't like the trigger (slightly better with modification) and it's definitely not as accurate as the FS2000.

FS2000 Tactical
Summary: The FS2000, while slightly heavier and bulkier - is probably the most ergonomic and ambidextrous (especially with the front ejection). The integral design keeps it fairly dust and maintenance-free, although this precludes the use of PMAGs and similar magazines (a big sticking point). Thankfully you can still use LAR15's, although they require the use of a pull-tab due to the larger mag well. Although there's ample rail space for optics, you need a factory tri-rail for mounting any accessories. The trigger is very good, and accuracy (especially with a heavy profile barrel) is excellent.

^ and the Tavor takes it by a nose... I love mine, heck of a good piece of kit!

Cheers

P.S. "Patiently" waiting for the RFB to land... I'm either in this shipment or the next... Ugh, the torture!!!

Really, the only improvements that are needed are a better trigger on the Tavor and the ability to accept PMAGs in the FS2000 (a standard hand guard with integrated side rails would be slick!) Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with either. And they both look really cool. ;)
