Can anyone recommend a good Hi-Power clone in the ~500.00 range? Personal experiences, the good bad etc..

I tried a quick search but didn't really find anything usefull.

Please avoid 'it's crap' remarks without qualifying your thoughts, I found alot of that in my search...

Thanks all,

DC

The FEG's at TSE look good, If I didn't have a hi-power already I'd likely buy one, they have nicer sights than the older hi-powers (white dots like on my XD40).

pilot_dc, sorry I didn't answer this sooner. The best of the Browning High Power (BHP) clones is an Arcus 94 and I am not sure they are imported into Canada. They do not look like a BHP but they sure do perform like one. Next, I would look at the FEG clones, they are very nice on the outsides but have tool marks etc. inside. I do not recommend a FM HP from Argenina not because they are not a great pistol but because they are licensed copies rather than clones. The FM is my first pick followed closely by the Arcus 94. Thanks all, I'll definately go do some pricing on all those mentionned and try to shoot some of them if I can find someone local who owns one. The reason I'm looking for a HP or clone there of, aside from reputation, is that the CF still uses them as primary issue. Since I once get to use an issue one once a year, maybe, I'd like to have my own to maintain proficiency. Nothing like arming ppl with a weapon they barely know how to shoot, may as well give us pointy sticks for all the time on the range we get

The FEGs that TSE et al are selling are not BHP clones. They are BHPs with a S&W barrel lock-up system. The new ones have the advantage of a safety you can actually use.

I have been thinking of buying one of the new FEGs to see if it's bbl lock-up system is superior to the BHP system with intense use.

I have an older FEG (late80s-early90s) which is a true 1960s BHP clone. It is a great gun, and ALL the parts will interchange.

I was able to find a FN BHP for ~450$ and it was in VG cond.

Then I found a FEG Hipower in VG for ~300$

I perfered the FN over the FEG, it was better built, more solid. I sold my FN and kicking my azz, so I bought the FEG, but wasn't impressed by it.

Yes and in fact the ones in use by the CF were made by Inglis during WWII after the FN factory fell into german hands.

BTW does anyone know what the value of a FN HP manufactured in occupied Belgium during the war, Nazi markings on the slide VG+ Cond?
Thanks

PS headdamage, that's one ###Y piece! :D

HeadDamage, the Inglis isn't considered a clone. It is rather a variation caused by the occupation of Belguim. It is very rare to find a Maple Leaf as intact as yours. Regards, Richard :D

Much to my dismay the decal has been falling apart since I took the photo. About 1/2 of what was there has now fallen off, I've kept the bits but there is not much that can be done with them.
