Hello,

Can some of you provide me some info on this FN (country of origin, rarity, 308 vs 7.62, etc.) or at least a good link where I can get some info?

Thanks.

i would guess indian based on the crude sand cuts on the bolt carrier and the darkness of the wood, does it have a folding charging handle?

Yes it does have a folding charging handle. Does that make it 7.62?

to my knowlege all of them are 7.62, with the possible exception of imbels from brazil, and maybe DSA made ones,

folding handles were on inch pattern guns for the most part, and you have an inch mag in the gun. if the mag had that floor plate and was in a metric gun, the mag would be from an african country that i cant recall ATM, they wanted their guns to look just like the brit ones, but they were metric guns

It's an FN 1A1, made by the Ishapore Arsenal in India. Unlicensed, reverse-engineered clone of the British L1A1.

All military surplus FN FAL rifles are 7.62x51mm, which is for all intents and purposes the same thing as .308 Winchester, though I have seen these rifles have problems running commercial .308 ammo.

It has no rarity whatsoever, lots of them came in just before the design was prohibited.

Indian 7.62. Not rare, (in Canada). Proof of orgin is in the markings. Does it say "Rifle 7.62 mm 1A1" behind the charging handle? Look hard as they tend to wear off. Most likely a 12(5) Rifle, a few inches are 12(3) no reason for this just government baffoonery. Hope this helps.

Battered up Indian. Got to be the crudest FALs made.:) Interesting practice I've seen in a couple of magazines are pics of one of these guns fastened to the soldier holding it, with a chain.

Grizz

Yeah, coming through Delhi airport a few years back and seeing police/military with MP5s slung with what looked like toilet pull chain didn't inspire any confidence at all.

I think I remember them being $99...arsenal refininshed were $299.

Thanks guys! There is no other markings beside serial number. Not even the caliber. It is now a Dewat and I would like to replace the wood set with a better condition one. Anybody know where I can get one? What about an Indian bayonet?

Other side and flash hider pics as requested
