FN - L1A1 furniture Ishapore 1A1 & bbl reduction :)

Anyone have experience with mounting Brit furniture on a Ishapore RFI rifle?

Ive noticed that the Ishapore isnt as standard as the L1A1 series (inch rifles). And my original wood furniture is somewhat lacking at this point.

I was hoping to mount new furniture (painted OD) and Duracoat the rifle as a project since it cant be fired anymore

Any tips would be appreciated.

The handguards and pistol grip will fit. The butt however, will need some trimming in the slot where the tang from the bottom of the lower fits. It is longer on the Ishy than the regular inch pattern guns.

X2 with Recce. 10 minutes with a Dremel and it will fit fine (the Dremel wheel will be caked in melted plastic, but a small price to pay).

Im getting good at re-finishing old furniture so this should be fun. OD green (Canadian Tire Camo) and maybe duracoat the entire upper , lower and bbl ?

ANyone suggest a suitable flashhider for a shorty L1A1???

A Vortex would be cool, but there are .308 A2 flashhiders as well. If i shorten the bbl than it will have to get a shorter FH as well.

Shazam, it sounds like you're almost describing my FAL project.
For the flash hider maybe look into the new FAL specific Vortex, or if that looks like a PITA to get out of the US (Probably will be) then get the threading done differently on your barrel when it gets chopped. That will allow you to use what ever FH you want (on mine Dycor chopped the barrel, and I had them thread it for an AR Phantom, followed by them boring out the Phantom to .308).

RobAK - Im working towards the same result.

The Ishapore has been sitting in the safe and will be the next project for me. The parts are harder to get from the States and I was hoping to keep it as an inch lower to use the mags that I already have.

In a perfect world I would build a metric Para FAL (folder) but that isnt in the cards right now.

I hear you on that one. If this CFO/SAP crap goes away, I plan on doing the para conversion and getting the DSA railed handguards for my project.

Tapco also have these handguards out now ...
