I have just got my hands on this rifle. Was my grandfathers that he bought second hand after returning from WW2 then passed on to my father . Interested if anyone can tell me how to figure out year of manufacture and estimate value. Its fair condition. Most of the bluing gone. takedown lever under fore end to take down missing. Aperature site on stock shows signs of glue residue around its base from repair. I intend to use it as a fairweather deer/bear gun until I make kill or two to keep up the family tradition but just interested in figuring out a bit about the history of this rifle.

Thanks,

There were approximately 3400 of these made between 1910 -1931. Does yours have the removable clip? I'm presuming it doesn't or you would have
said that. Different clip variations show up with slight differences, so conversions had to have been done by a number of different gun shops of the day.

The one I had used a system that I have never seen on any of the 6-7 other detach clips that I've run across. There is a website that talks about these
FN/Brownings but havn't been on there for a while. The other main variations were a standard and a Deluxe model which had upgraded wood with checkering
and a full length rib on top of the barrel. The standard was as the Remington 8/81's.

Check out "the great model 8
Hipboots, check out "the great model 8 & 81" site on the net .This site has tons of info on the Browning Patent 1900 model. This was made with a plain barrel ( uncommon ) or with a rib and all have checkered wood. The browning model is the deluxe version of the Remington model 8 and was only made in 35 cal.
