I was looking online at the FN Para IA1 Conversion for sale at TSE and need some help. It seems that no one at TSE knows much about FNs and I would like some info on the rifle:
- Overall condition?
- Bbl length? 16" (?)
- Was the gas porting altered?
- Type of finish (I'm assuming that it has been refinished)?
- Manufacture of lower (inch mags?) & conversion parts?
- Manufacture of bolt & carrier?
- Body cover/rail manufacture?
- Flash suppressor type?
- Forestock type?
- Accessories (mags, spare parts, etc)?
- Has it been test fired?

I can't answer your questions, but that is a very nice rifle, too bad we can't get/use them the way they can in the States, that gun was just made for the bush.

You can contact Redleg on the board and he should be able to answer your questions.

I was the Paras in the shop and they look good :)

depends on how much they are selling for. Worth the money especially if you can fit inch mags :)

...Yes, I know you cant shot them legally , blah blah blah .. The rifle is nice regardless

..'Sure makes one wonder why the Commonwealth Countries, and those Countries that used/built the FN series of rifles, other than the Argentineans, didn't make the short barrel, folding stock, "modification", at least as a stop-gap measure, while the M16/AUG etc. where being phased in. ..... "...why the..." Cost.
The FN Para is prohibited same as any other FAL. It's just an FAL with a folding stock and shorter barrel(431mm/16.97"). The rail is aftermarket. The finish is the same as that on any FAL. It's black phosphating.

Excuse my ignorance. Is this an excessively bubba FN instead of a real military issue? The gun doesn't look right from end to end.

I wonder how they eliminated the recoil spring being in the buttstock tube and the rat tail on the carrier..where is it now?

Nice looking wallhanger though...

Here is what is known.
16" yes
Not that we can determine, the gas system is adjustable so it would not make sense to do so.
Lower and upper are inch, but unknown manufacture.
Unknown bolt and carrier manufacture.
DSA body cover scope mount.
Unknown muzzle brake make (not military though).
Aftermarket handguards
Test fired per your request.

good question.

on the lower, the entire butt/tube was removed and the lower could be reused by attaching a folder in its place.

on the bolt carrier , the rat tail was also removed and a small hole been drilled along the top of the carrier, a rod and recoil spring are then inserted, there is enuff clearance for the recoil spring (about an inch) when the carrier moves back.
