FN PS90 in Canada

I bought one in Canada....after I had tried unsuccessfully importing one from the USA.

Sure I bought it for $1800, which was more like $CA 2000 after US taxes and exchange rate. Then I had to pay to have it shipped to a US FFL for exporting and he filled in all the paperwork and I gave him a $200 down payment. Then I did about 4 hours of research, found the right paperwork and filled in the Canadian Import documents and sent them off to foreign affairs for approval. Then finally these were approved a month (and a few phone calls) later. Then I called the CFC and arranged the transfer (I had to be able to "own" the PS-90 before I could import it, of course). They needed a bunch more info and I had to call back. Then after I had received the TAN from the CFC I phoned the exporter. He still hadn't heard back from the Department of State. A month later, still no answer. A month after that, the US Department of State said "No" (they didn't like how it looked or something, I guess). So I left him with his fee, paid to ship the PS-90 back to the gun shop where I bought it from (and paid for his time to arrange the shipping, wrapping, etc.) and then I phoned the gun shop and begged them to take it back from me, which they did for only a 10% restocking fee (plus I lost money on the exchange rate when visa credited the money to my credit card, since they credit at a lower exchange rate than what they debit). Then I wrote a letter to the RCMP explaining that I was actually denied the export from the US and I needed them to cancel the transfer to me. Then I needed to contact Foreign Affairs and tell them that I was no longer importing the item.

At the end of the day I have a Firearms Certificate for a PS-90 that I will never own and I am short about $500 and 20 hours of my time. I certainly learned a lot!

I am not a Questar cheerleader, but if you think you can get it cheaper...well then go right ahead. I have tried it once and unless it is a "sure thing" like a hunting rifle, I will just rely on a Canadian Importer (like Questar) who actually has successfully imported the item and has taken all the risk. You are paying extra because he has taken all the risk.

Anyhow, feel free to try the import/export procedure if you want...I have first hand knowledge that it promotes hair loss! :)

Bruce that's impressive jumping the hoops. Sorry to hear that didn't work out.

A year and a half ago I wanted a rifle only available in the US. I asked every wholesaler I could find before I found gunnutz and Questar. They all told me impossible forget about it. They almost were insinuating I was crazy.

The rifle I was after at the time was a bushmaster. My tastes changed and I ended up with an LMT, +some (very happy)
