Ive recently acquired a FN 49 for a very cheap price, and for a good reason. The front end from the gas adjustment to the end of the barrel is fairly rusted up. I cleaned lots it it off so i could dissemble the rifle completely, but not able to get the adjustment peice moved what so ever. Anyway i digress... the barrel is very dirty and rusted. I will soon try to fill it with solvent and leave it for sometime and try scrubbing again, but honestly i think the bore is done for. And on top of that the rifle has no marking what so ever for what caliber it may be. Im aware there around about 5 different calibers this rifle was rolled out with. So my question here really is, could some potentially get the barrel and chamber honed out and sleeved, and is it possible to do that to a different caliber than the rifle was originally? If it was .308 id be happy, but the mag looks like it was an 8mm possibly.
Anyway, any direction pointed would be nice, and all comments are welcome too. Just want to get this little project rolling.
Thanks.

As always I stand to be corrected but it is my understanding that barrel relining or sleeving is basically just for lower pressure calibres like handguns, .22s, shotguns and black powder cartridges and that it doesn't stand up well to high pressure rifle cartridge use.

Correct. You should not ever sleeve a high-pressure barrel. A "New" (New, used, NOS) barrel is your only option. Or live with it.

However, if it's a 7mm, then it could potentially be re-bored to .30 cal.

What nationality is it? That should give you a clue as to caliber and the bolts are usually mark also.

I have a fair number of 8mm FN49 cast off barrels I don't need.
