Fn scar scrapped!

The guys whom posted that, do not know what going on, and it is still being used in theatre presently.

I agree with the US SF guy about it being overrated and getting a Mk 23 feeling about it, that was exactly my take on the SCAR as well. It just isn't that special. No doubt a bit more reliable than an M4 but then so is the H&K 416 and umpteen other 5.56mm rifles.

If Army Special Forces drops it (and he appears in a position to know) then it's pretty much going to die.

If this is the case then expect to see a ton of these on the civi market with the 16" barrel. What do you think that they are going to do with all the rifles that are already in the production chain? Scrap `em....I think not. Just like HK MK23 when HK did not get any more orders for them from US Spec Ops they decided to market them to civi market. Yes the Govt model and civi model have a few slight differences but they were able to use up what was in the supply chain by doing this.....smart move on HK`s part. Maybe FN will follow suit.

They've been for sale in US shops for months now. I've shouldered it... it feels like an oversized XCR. Bulky, really awkward IMO. I'd rather have that new Ruger piston driven AR...

Those that are currently in the production chain will be finished and delivered to the US Military since they have already been paid for, they will be either be issue to non-combat units or mothballed into the surplus system, it will be years before civilians will get the chance to get thier hands on one.

possibly.....but they will be offerred to civillians much sooner as you can already get them in the US and a dealer up here had pre-order info awhile back but is no longer accepting pre-orders.

SCARs are already for sale in the US to civilians. The military issue rifle is select fire. One post in Jan by one person on an open chat board does not a cancelation make. Something big like this would make a headline or two in the defense industry....not seen at this point. So lets not get two excited.

In the meantime, someone could post on what is better 5.56 or 308, 9mm or 45 or better yet chat about the problems with the M16 series of rifles...

I say the next step up should be caseless ammunition. With a little extra R&D into the already pre-existing technology, they could make it so much better. Many advantages to caseless, such as less mass (can carry more rounds), one less action in the firing process (which can yield higher rate of fire), etc.

I wouldn't be surprised. The SCAR really offers nothing but some extra rail space. Not for that kind of money.
