I might be alone, but I've learned that the FN SCAR will likely be released to the public in 2008. It's not just internet either, I read the same release date in a gun magazine.

I can see this puppy costing $3000, and think I can live with that price. Anyone heard any information on which Canadian Co's are planning to import these?

And yea, I obviously prefer to get my information from more reliable sources than sales reps too, like rumour and small children.

"Bob, we are considering offering a semi-auto version of both the SCAR-L and the SCAR-H perhaps during 07. We will likely offer both the Light and the Heavy with the 3 barrel lengths (CQC, Assault and SV) so you will have the option to change barrels and quickly tailor the gun to meet your needs. I suspect that we will initially offer the SCAR-L in 5.56 NATO followed by 6.8 Rem. The Heavy will be offered initially in 7.62 NATO followed by 7.62x39. All you'll need to do to change calibers is change the barrel, the bolt face and the magazine which takes about 3 minutes. Thanks for your interest. Stay tuned. r, paul"

I just got off the phone with FNH and have learned that there newly projected date to launch the civilian version of the Scar rifles is sometime around April or May of 2008

The problem will be getting an export permit. It gets tougher and tougher, especially for "non-sporting" rifles like the SCAR. If they are also made in Belgium it will be fairly easy.

Damn. Do they do that sometimes, produce the rifle in the USA for the USA and make some in Belgium too?

But with the US$ it would sure be a good time to lock some in, from them, if possible. I can't speak for anyone else but if the price is reasonable, and the conversion parts don't cost too too much $, I'd pay a bit of a premium for a rifle that can accept optics and accessories, can perform long-range .308Win shooting, and also be a cheap plinker in 7.62x39. And be Non Restricted, since aiui every rifle in the USA for civilian market has to have 18.5" barrel or get an SBR tax stamp.

The ones I handled at the SHOT show in Florida in Jan were made in Belgium.
The FN rep explained that the prototypes are built there, then once full production starts, it will move to the US.
As Canam mentiones above, and many others have mentioned on many posts here, the problem is not getting it into Canada, it is getting it out of the US.

US minimum barrel length before SBR kicks in is 16". No idea what FN is considering for barrel lengths, but Canadian market considerations are unlikely to affect any decisions.
