Well hunting didn't work out this year (again), but I did score a few new model 70's recently. The top one pictured is a 2012 Alaskan in .338WM from last year. The .30-06 Super-Grade "75th Anniversary" I scooped last week has yet to be fired. The Featherweight 7X57 has been to the range a couple times. Love these new Winchesters. If only I could get one of the "Featherweight/Super-Grades" in 7X57 that Cabela's seems to have only in their U.S. stores! U.S. Oh well.
Merry Christmas.

Pickles saw one in the Saskatoon Cabela's "a couple weeks ago". He didn't say that he bought it so it might still be there.

Just sayin'...

They are awesome. I bought the Extreme Weather SS in .270 Win this Fall and although it's a little bit long for me, I love the CRF action and the accuracy is great. Cycles like butter.

I've bought 5 of the new FN/BACO m70s over the last two years and I've had problems with 3 of them. I really like them but I must have the worst luck ever in picking them.

I've had 3 of them, a .30-06 sporter, .270 feather weight and the only one I kept was the shot show special .257 roberts featherweight. They all shot well and operated flawless. The .270 and .30-06 had plain wood with "generous" barrel channels in the stock. Bluing was good on all three but the roberts, by far had the best fit and finish of them all with a nice hunk of wood on it.

The .30-06 and .270 were redundant to my needs as I already had actual pre-64 versions, so they moved along. Otherwise, I'd still have them.

I'd be afraid of using a supergrade in the areas I hunt. I try hard to keep them in great shape, but would cry as soon as I scratched one.

I have a featherweight SS with a wood stock in 270 and an extreme weather in 30-06. I took the 06 on a dall sheep hunt last August as I didn't want the stock ruined on the 270. We encountered a lot of rain and at night I would just put the rifle (with 3 in the bottom, as my guide would say), in the tent soaking wet and didn't even worry about it. It did suffer a few deep scratches on the Bell and Carlson stock and I was glad I took it instead of the 270. Both shoot great. I now have 2 pre 64s in 30-06 and the two FNs. I sold my Brownings and Remingtons as I wanted all rifles with the same safeties so when others in the family use them it will keep it simple.

Fit and finish on any recent examples I've seen have been very nice.
MOA trigger is nice and clean, but I still prefer the old Winchester triggers.
My Stealth CRF is an absolute hammer and action is smooth as butter.....one of my favourites.

Need a couple nice wooden M70's......Super Grade (probably a 30-06...just because) and a Featherweight 22-250 are on the list.

Beautiful rifles Geoff!

I only own one FN M70 Featherweight in .308 but of all the hunting rifles I have, it's one of my favorites. Great guns with slick actions, quality fit and finish, and a great design.

Would you guys recommend a new winchester over a Tikka or Browning?? Im considering all 3 rifles but havent shot the newer winchesters just an 80'd model 70 featherweight and i wasnt a huge fan of the action.

I have a couple too and that's a big statement for a "dyed in the wool" Remington man. They are very nice rifles though and I can find no flaw with them at all, except a little heavier than I like to hunt with.

The first is a Supergrade that I chambered up from 338 to 340 Wby. The one in the foreground is the 75th anniversary edition 30-06.

I wouldn't take the other ones you mentioned. When I was looking for something the winchester m70 is the only one that felt like it was made form actual steel the others feel like cheap tin. Also the crf is very nice feature.

Far superior rifles in my opinion to the new Brownings, and the Tikka ain't even on the horizon, in comparison to these new FNs. These are the quality of rifles that would cause me to use it to hunt with, in conjunction to my Rems. I probably will hunt with the 340, but I'll put it in fiberglass before taking it afield to reduce the weight and preserve the nice wood stock.
