[/IMG]Another M-70 fan. A picture from a previous post, all M-70's except the second from the left.

Nice collection!

Second from left or now top since the picture got turned in transit is a Kimber Classic Select. The top one is an M-70 Alaskan. and c-fbmi is correct I stripped the stock and added the ebony tip and grip cap. I wanted a .375 in a Super Grade. Presently they don't make such a beast, and I am to cheap to buy and older classic one, so I went to Epps and picked out an Alaskan with the nicest wood and went to work on it. Close enough. I could swap out the bottom metal from aluminum to steel with Super Grade engraved on it, but when I checked they want 250 bucks for it. H'mmm I am not totally convinced I really need it that bad. It fits me well and shoots nice groups, so for now were happy. The 3rd one down is a 75th Aniversary Super Grade, it was my 60th birthday present to "me". There all blooded except for the Alaskan.

What load, or factory ammo are you shooting out of your Alaskan? I loaded up 260gr NAB and 72.5grains of RL15 and Fed 215 primers. I made a few 5 shot groups under an inch with that load. I also seated the bullets out as far as I could until they would barely fit in the mag. I tried 73 grains a few times but i believe that it spread out a bit but that could have been me staring a flinch after a while or a warm barrel. I love the Alaskan and the ONLY 375!

At present I am using Remington cases, Win mag primers, 260 gr. Nosler partitions or accu bonds over 69gr. RL15 seated on the canlure line. They average 1" to 1.25" which to me in a hunting rifle is more than acceptable. The accubonds will print 1" higher and 1"to the right of the partitions with the same group size. That load is right out of the Nosler manual. Recoil at 69gr. is quite acceptable.

That's where I found my load too. I believe the max is 73 grains. I am also using remington cases. I also used the 30-06 load from the Nosler manual (RL22) and 180 accubonds and had the same great results out of my new Super Grade. I am really happy with the Winchesters.

The Nosler manuals have been my go to books for many years. I have used 165 gr. partitions over 57gr. IMR 4350 in the 30-06 for 33yrs. with great results on game and very good accuracy out of my M-70's. I like my M-70's and Nosler bullets, just my preference.
I agree with the introduction of a Winchester custom shop, probably be the same shop as Browning now that Winchester is controlled by them. The Super Grade should be offered in any chambering you want plus what ever custom features one desires. It will be interesting to hear the results of the shot show.

Would also love to see smaller chamberings in most of their models such as 223, etc. Some rimfire options would be nice as well. I am sure they will be coming out with something for their new 17 rimfire.

They have a 17wsm rifle its just going to set you back a lot of money. Its a low wall. Think it was around $1799 msrp.

I've seen that on the website and have definitely "creeped" that gun in "cyber lingo".

How hard would it be for Winchester to actually produce all the chamberings it offers in a SG package? I realize the polishing will take longer but surely it all comes from the same stock right?

Well I think that if Winchester came back with their custom shop that it "used to be" and manufactured firearms that were worth the cost of advertising prices, then serious hunters would buy them from all over the place for a wide range of hunting.

Okay, so I did.... FN Winchester Model 70 Super Grade .30-06.

Topped it with a matte Leupold VXIII 4.5-14x40mm in Tally's:
