I need a bolt follower for this rifle. The device that holds the bolt open after the last shot. I might be interested in a receiver cover complete with rear sight for the same Venezuelan rifle. Is there a source for parts for these in Canada? The one source I found in the U.S. does not list the bolt follower.
Has anyone mounted a scope on one of these and if so what is the mount and where can one source it?
Can anyone tell me what the "reverse dovetail" that is on the right side of the receiver is for?
Lastly, how is the gas adjustment done? Which way for what?

Rail was from Northridge International
Scope mount Echo Military
Scope OIP Type 3 (now called Meopta)

Maybe try Western Gun Parts if you haven't already.
I have to laugh at this link, the eyecup is on the wrong end!:

I haven't found a Canadian source for parts for the FN49, but there are several in the U.S. (with mixed lists of inventory) including Northridge, the source of the scope base for the other poster on this thread:

You could also try Numrich (e-gunparts) Springfield Sporters and Sarco, although not all will ship north across the border.

Original and even after-market copies of the dovetail scope base only come up rarely and are expensive. The supply at Northridge dried up a while back (before I got my Egyptian with the dovetail, unfortunately). But a nice arrangement if you can put one together.

Gas adjustment is counter-clockwise (away from the front sight) to lower the pressure (the gas relief port will get bigger) and clockwise to close up the port and increase the pressure/cycling. You should be able to set it up for specific ammo so that the rounds do not bother the guy firing the next lane over.:D

Good luck with the search.

Also strongly suggest loading only one round at a time until gas system is adjusted to make sure hammer is captured by the sear. If you're missing the piece that holds the bolt open, squeeze the trigger again on the empty chamber. Don't want any nasty surprises at the range.

Thanks for the info guys.
Diopter, nice rig, thanks for sending the photos. What caliber is yours? Looks like that base uses the dovetail. How does it lock in place? I can't see any screws. The rail/rings look like a quick detach design. Correct? Do they take a 1" tube?
My 49 appears different in a number of ways. The upper wood on mine is not vented and is one piece as compared to a disassembly video I saw where it was two piece. Mine also does not have the bayonet mount on it. That assembly is different on mine. As well I do not have the flash arrestor/brake on it. I am not sure whether it has been cut off or never had it.
I plan to reload for this one again. Full length crimping dies. It's been about 25 years since I did. Any suggestions for loads/bullets to achieve proper gas operation? I recall that I had some issues with a slower powder years back but got sidetracked before I got a successful load worked out. I would like to use the same powder for a 260, 30-06 and a 308 if possible.

7x57
The dovetail were a tight fit + Loctite.
26mm, close enough.
Not unusual to find 7x57 that were have the upper handguard cut, makes gas adjustment easier. Slots were an unusual addition. Not done by FN, most likely some armorer.
7x57 should have the flash eliminator. Some liberally minded dude probably though it look too militaristic. It just screws on.

Gas system should have lots of room for load experimentation. Try 4895 or Varget.

I would say the barrel on mine has been cut down, just enough to take off the threads it would appear. I would hope that it was muzzle damage that necessitated that.
My searches also turned up a B-Square scope mount and rings for the 49 but that source was out of stock. So what kind of groups can you pull with your scoped version. These rifles in that caliber are supposed to be very accurate. When last I shot this one 25 years ago it would easily put all shots in a 4" bull at 100yds with the open sights and the mickey mouse reloads I made at that time. It was my first high power and I used it for deer hunting with success. Of course my eyes were better then and I think it is capable of much better when scoped.

I had a B square mount before getting the original about 15 years ago.
Works for a short while, then useless. Just not the same.
You might have better luck now, if they improved it considerably.

Threw it out way back when. Screws threads wore out , re-tapped to larger sizes and wore out again. Crap grade aluminum. Spring rod attaches to back-plate forming a t-shape. it screws(2) into the back of the mount base which replaces the original top receiver cover. All the strain goes on those two screws' threads
