Alright so im in the market for another pistola, specifically a .45, and after spending lots of time looking into it I have become very, very interested in the FNP45-Tac. Second up to that an HK USP-45 Compact Tactical. I want a workhorse, not a sensitive target pistol cough cough 1911's lol.

My question is where can I get one of these in the FDE version? I know Questar has them but only in black and they will not take orders for the FDE's as FN is now switching over to the FNX series. This is what I was told. Not too overly interested in EE. I like my equipment NIB nough said. I will look at EE offers but I dont know that many exist, if any!

Regardless, does anyone know who else may stock these in FDE/ will be willing to order one in. Dealers with good news feel free to post as my business will likely be going your way as a result.

And for you HK lovers you may state your case as well. HK makes awesome firearms but the FN has left me in awe as of right now. Other input is always welcome on .45's but remember im not interested in 1911's, don't want to here about M&P's and I love glocks but want to diversify a little!

Fire away with thoughts, opinions and recomendations. Im all ears!

Respecting your wishes I won't mention 1911s and M&Ps lol

No trigger time on the FNs though I hear good things. I am a big fan of HKs so good choice there.

One you didn't mention but that comes with a FDEish frame is the SIG 220. Have you considered that one? Another generally well regarded combat/duty 0.45

Fnp 45

I bought an FNP45 Competition from Arms East and changed the iron sights so that I could co witness a Trijicon RMR. One of the selling points of the FNP45 is that the slide is premilled for an RDS. IMO this is an excellent arrangement. The pistol is comfortable to shoot, has great capacity and is extremely accurate. Most of the dimensions are similar to my 1911 but the gun is thicker. The grip looks big but in reality it's only 1/4 inch greater in circumference than my 1911.

One of the things I like about the gun is the thumb safety. 98% of the time, I handle the pistol the way I do my 1911. The DA trigger is longer and heavier but I rarely use it. The SA trigger is a consistent 4 pounds and smooth. If you were to carry the FNP 45 you would have the choice of SA cocked and locked or DA/SA with or without the safety engaged. I like the flexibility.

From what I understand, the FNP line is being discontinued in favour of FNX branded models. I've read what is posted on the FNH website regarding the 45 ACP version and can't see any obvious differences. They seem to be using the same photographs. Here's mine. It's all in black and doesn 't have the threaded barrel yet but tis tres cool to me.

I picked one of the FNP45 Tacs up from Questar. I also wanted the FDE model but from reading on forums they are in short supply in the States. So, I went with the black and all i have to say is wow! Its an awesome handgun! HK was my other choice if I couldn't get the FNP...either way, you really can't go wrong.

Aside from higher combat sights and threaded barrel, are there any other differences between FNP-45 Competition and Tactical? I can't figure it out from the info on websites.

TIA

Fnp-45

This is really a fine piece of weaponry you have there. The TB on it would have given it more..."future potential" if things do change...would love to try and shoot that someday, you located anywhere in Southern Ontario, specifically near Silverdale Gun Club?[/QUOTE]

Getting a TB is an option I considered but put aside. The thread protectors are always getting lost and if you don't have any thing threaded on there, it's a waste. I pretty much confirmed that a suppressor on a 45 ACP is worse than a waste of time so the gun will stay that way at least for now.

You are very welcome to try the gun out. Yes I am a member of Silverdale and will likely be more active there this year. I really think the FNP is an outstanding gun but it has to compete with my custom 1911 for range time. I may try it for IPSC as I don't care much about my times and would expect to fall in the bottom range of the division anyway. The Trijicon RMR on that gun has to be experienced. I'm on my way home from Texas as I type this and will be active in a week or two. PM me if you would like to hook up. I'm also a member at Waterford if you ever go there.

Comp-Tac?

No difference that I know of. Both have upgraded triggers. For what it's worth, I really liked the Competition sights but wanted to hook up with the RMR. Co witnessing the sights is very effective.
