I am mostly interested in responses from older guys who are using FO, do you prefer red or green?

I shoot wearing glasses with yellow lens, both indoor and out. I have only used red FO up until now, but was wondering if any Senior :D competitors like myself have found green to be easier to pick up.

TIA.

I'm 58 and like the green better. My lenses have no tint though. I used the HiViz kit on my G34 that allows you to easily swap out the rod for either colour. That would be best and then you could see which works best for you.

I shoot with a reading lens on the right side and a progressive for my left. Front sight is bright and clear regardless of color - red on my primary / green on the backup.

Once the beep beeps the color of the FO is no longer an issue...all I see is sights and targets.

I use green FO for IPSC and shotgun sporting clays, and I wear yellow tint glasses indoor and outdoor. it is not the age but your ability to quickly pick up the front sight. Green stands out more for me. you shoot a CZ shadow same as me and it is not an issue changing the FO front sight.

It is a fairly commonly held belief that the human eye picks up red quicker than other colors...not sure if that helps or not in your case.

Warm colours advance and cool colours recede(commercial artist) so yes, red is picked up faster....technically. Trouble with the red FO though is it's more orange than red so they tend to halo. The edges become somewhat non-defined, which is not ideal for precise shot calling. While I'm shooting Open now, I indend at some point to pick up a Production gun and that will be with green FO. I just find I can read them better.

Plus it's a very serene colour. It helps me relax ;-)

I even know some who use yellow.
I run with red but will try green if I get Brazos FS on my STD. pistol.
We should also add that FS makes difference and diameter of fiber optics which is personal. I like the FS which has bit of post extending pass the hole.

Green vs red

s) so yes said:
I agree with Rob. I found that the red tended to flare too much for me particularly outside... The CZ shadow has a .060 FO and in red that just aggravated the problem... Changed to a .040 FO front sight in green and use the green both inside and outside....

Definitely worth experimenting to see what works best for you

(For my 65 year old eyes its definitely green......) LOL

I used the green FO during Sat. and Sun. matches this weekend. I can pick up green faster, in both overcast and bright sunlight conditions, and it looks sharper (to me). I'll be using green FO from now on.

Thank you all for help!

I have been using red for so long despite what my good IPSC friend from Europe was preaching to me. I am willing to change from red to green for 2012 and see if truly it will make a difference. I am surprise with what science has got to say about green.
Also, most of the fiber optics I see on FS are red.

I prefer red. I find the green doesn't attract my eye as much. Must have been all the blood from my childhood?
