Fogducker to take up knitting instead of Hunting

I suffered for years with ever-increasing bouts-of-gout. Wifey was getting pissed off at me because it always seemed to flare-up while on vacation - I was miserable and made everyone around me that way too. Losing weight can also cause a flare-up. Hard to diagnose, as your uric acid levels may drop before testing all the while the pain is still there. Eventually, the doctor diagnosed me with gout. For the last two years, I now take allopurinol - I'm supposed to take it daily, but I take it more like every other day. I haven't had an attack for two years now. Life is good. For those who have never experienced gout, just know that the level of pain is exceptional. Joints are hot to the touch and the pain sent my blood pressure through the roof. Glad it's over.

Yup, that sounds about right. I suffered with gout in the big toe/foot area for years before I found what brought the attacks on. In my particular case it was "over indulging" (getting hammered) on my wife's ass-kicking homemade fruit wine :D Now I limit myself to just a single glass once in a while :( Must be something in the wine 'cause whiskey, tequila, vodka & beer don't cause any problems ;)

Is yours fibromyalgia from chronic worrying?
Gout can be brought on by drinking alcohol, eating organ meats, eating shellfish, eating rich foods, etc, etc ......

I rarely do any of these, and don't drink at all, and yet I get gout in my hand. It is nothing to sneeze at and hurts ALOT. I pity people that get it in their feet.

This thread is about gout, not fibromyalgia. I wasn't diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I got the tests and it was confirmed that elevated levels of uric acid in my system was the cause of my mild case of GOUT.

And for the record ..... I hardly worry about anything. I sleep well at night, eat well in the day and have never had high blood pressure. The only chronic thing around here are your dumb questions. ;)

've had gout flare ups every few months for a the past 2 years. one thing that helps for me is apples/ apple cider. i drink a lot of hard cider in the hot months, never once had a problem. also take apple cider vinegar tablets every night. eat a few apples a day to. sounds kinda crazy, but according to my doctor there's something in apples that helps prevent it, and since i started this i haven't had a real bad case, despite 16 hour days on my feet. an apple a day really can keep the doctor away.
