Folding stock on bolt action .22

I have a dream to bring a .22 into the bush with me on canoe trips but I would want it to have the following properties:
1) It will fit into my pack (probably < 30")
2) It be bolt action. Semi's no good because I may want to use quiet (750fps) rounds that wouldn't cycle the action.
3) Not single shot. This is the clincher because I can find youth guns that are ~30" but they are single shot (eg. the Henry Mini Bolt).

My idea here is to buy something like the Savage Mark II-G youth version (37" overall), cut off the stock and add a side-folding stock like the ones you can get for shotguns or AK-47's. The thing would not have to be super sturdy because it's only shooting .22 cartridges, but I would want it to work fairly well.

Do you guys think this can be pulled off and look okay? Any ideas on what parts I could use? Would it be possible to just buy a Butler Creek folding shotgun stock and add the pistol grip and all?

If I bought this would it fit? And where could I get one? I know SIR has the shotgun version...

Might I be smarter to simply cut off the stock and use a sling for stability in shooting?

I guess this first one is what I want, eh?

I'd just use a 10/22 with the folder of your choice and manually cycle the bolt for each "CB" shot.

If you really want a project though go for it anything is possible....buy a cheap boltaction, cutting and recrowning the barrel to min. length and shortening the stock will probably get you down under 30" but if I was you I'd be aiming for 26 1/4"

I shoot CB's with my Marlin Papoose......not the best trigger but super compact with it's 16" removable stainless barrel.

In my 10-22 RUGER with a Choate side folding stock, when I shoot CCI long CB caps they feed through the mag well and I use the bolt like a bolt action for each shot. Why go to the trouble of making a folding stock for something when there is something already made especially if you are going to buy the gun new. I could see this approach if you have the gun , like it but want a folding stock for it or if you wanted a folding stock on a centerfire bolt action. By the way my 10-22 is 37 3/4 inches long open and 27 inches folded. I have a Remington pump in .300 savage with a Butler Creek side folding stock off of a Remington 870 shotgun, very little work to make it fit and is very sturdy.

That's right - cycle manually. Those trainer rounds are so weak they will not jam or extract, all you will have to do is jingle the action knob, way faster then bolt action. Plus, like above said you will have rifle and stock that were ment to work together.

I also agree on the 10-22 thing.
Just be careful if you are going short you may be tempted to go with a 16" bbled gun, which is fine until you put a folder on it and it is then 25".
