Folding Stocks legality

Hmmmmm...... Strange question for a firearms enthusiast to ask.... unusual screen name... very new member.....

*EDIT*
But then again, maybe I'm just paranoid these days...

LOL, it's all a big conspiracy :)

Actually, I grew up with firearms, and as an adult I've always meant to pick one up, but never have. I joined here to get some insight.

My wife is sort of anti-gun (interesting considering her Dad is a RCMP member), so a full arsenal is out. However, a great multi-purpose firearm (like a shotgun) that I could do a little hunting with, shoot some clays, and have it look cool all at the same time would be ideal.

However, if a gun like that is no good for anything other than blowing at targets on the farm - it's no good to me. That's why I asked.

Do you have any recommendations?

It's only other practical purpose is for use as an easily-portable animal defense gun, or survival gun where space is somewhat at a premium. Even then, most people prefer a full stock. You can't really get a good cheek weld with a folder.

yup.

would both be excellent for funnin' around, shooting clays, and even doing a bit of hunting.

You can buy the barrels seperately inexpensively, and that makes it even more versitile. With a slug barrel you're good for deer out to 100 yards with modern slugs, the longer duck/goose barrel will knock 'em down just fine, and the short barrel is fine for grouse and upland, as well as scaring the neighbours and blowing the crap out of stuff that "had it comin".

The mav 88 is an inexpensive shotgun - but it's rugged and quite usable. Plus - they make tonnes of 'evil' attachments if you want to dress it up later. Including folding stocks :)

No prob.

BTW - if you buy one and want different barrels, i hear that wholesale sports is the place to order barrels from. A little cheaper than SIR - although you can see even SIR's prices on replacement barrels are pretty good.

Mossberg 500 barrels and 88 barrels are directly interchangable. Same thing.

They're also good btw for zombie defense. :)

My hunting buddy just had that maverick 88 delivered. We took it out and put it through it's paces. Nice shotgun, and can't beat the price.

I think it was because I was winning.

C'mon, EB, you know that wasn't the problem .. those guys don't mind you winning, but when you start blasting the clays that THEY miss too... you're just rubbing it in :)

I read somewhere that the Maverick line was manufactured (or maybe assembled) in mexico, and that this somehow made them lower quality? I dismissed it as heresy because I couldn't find any other evidence to support it, and because I had my sights set on getting a Mav 88 w/28" vent-rib for duck blasting so I wasn't interested in any info that would make me not buy one (if that makes any sense) :D Can anyone corroborate this fact, though?

When in doubt - call.

I called 'em up, and spoke to someone at the manufacturing plant.

Mavericks are made in eagle pass, texas. Not mexico.

That's what I figured. Not that mexican manufacturing is substandard, Volkswagen & Audi have facilities in mexico (and an engine plant/foundry in brazil) and the new Ford Fusion is partially assembled in mexico. Off topic again, lookit me go!
