Folklore Bunker!!...or is it??

under St Saviours church on the island of Guernsey is a complex of tunnels apparently built during the German occupation for ammunition storage. After the war a considerable quantity of materiel was wheeled in there and sealed up to get rid of it, including artillery pieces (removed in the early '50s when the scrap price had risen). Persistent rumours about this, resulting in unauthorised access by treasure seekers resulted in the tunnels being opened up for tourists in the 1980s when I was there. Much of what was left, e.g. a searchlight, was rusty as hell and disintegrating.
Similar things have happened in Jersey.

Paul see my earlier posts about forts of BC, the book you are thinking of is Vancouver defended by Peter Moluk (spelling?) He was in my Milita unit.

That sounds right! I never got around to buying it, but I came across it while looking for info on the various bunkers.

I got interested when I came across the gun emplacemnet behind the Anthropology Museum, which led me to the bunkers near the restaurant in Stanley Park, but that is as far as I took it, since I was only in Vancouver for a long weekend at the time.

MKV11;
Yes you are right, I was involved in the salvage many years ago (early 90s) of the underground hospital facility the Germans were building on Jersey.
Ther Germans dumpted everything in the complex before leaving. At the time we salvaged everything from trailers to helmets, to Large guns (AA), searchlights, tires, truck parts, medical supplies.

A lot of the material was as good as the day the entrance had been blown by the retreating Germans.

The facility was on a private farm, we salvaged many tons of material, all dangerous material handed over to the military.

The facility still contains thousands of items, however because no records exist and having found some planted explosives the project was declared too dangerous to continues with.

I still have some souvenirs from that project, it was interesting indeed.

Interesting, I didn't know they'd buried that one. That was quite a complex the times I stayed there. Must have been 9000 ft sq on each floor and there were several...

I had to sign for that entire bunker, excepting the Comm's side which was a secure area. Yea it was really interesting.
