Fondled a new Ruger American 22 today.

stopped by the local gun store and low and behold they had the elusive Ruger American Rimfire in stock.
not just that but they actually had the 22" barrel one in stock.
ive seen a couple of the shorter barrel ones but this is the first sampling of the longer barrel ones i have seen.

i must say im pretty impressed with them.
i of course snatched one up, unfortunately i only had half the cash in hand so i had to put it on layaway until monday when i can get back.

but i have been very curious about these guns since they came out last summer.
i was going to pick up 1 or 2 of the full sized Centerfire Americans but they just felt to cheap.
but the 22 offering isnt bad.

i think im going to pop it off and put it on a Boyd stock regardless, i just like wood better over plastic.

but definatly a nice feeling gun.
fiber optic sites, heavy barrel that is said to be free floated, uses the same mag's as the 10/22 and i only have about 20 of those mag's laying around so that wont be a problem.
will be interested to get it out to the range and compare it to my Savage.
initially they seem very similar.
trigger is damn near exactly the same.
ill get some pic's and try to get out to the range next week if weather permits.

till then!

I've been looking at them too but there like unicorns, a myth, I've checked with the local shops in Ottawa and they don't have anything.

ya i was just about to order one from P&D when i stumbled upon the ones locally.

really looks like Ruger is getting stuff up to Canada finally.
ive seen GP100's, SP101's, SR1911 Commanders and now these American Rimefires all in the last 2 weeks.

I have no will power.

went to the store 10 minutes after my last post and picked it up.
i couldn't even wait until Monday..... *sigh*

I would of done the same thing! I think I'll wait for your review against the Savage. I like the Savage too. But what attracts me to the Ruger is the mag compatibility with the 10/22. The Savage not so much .

one thing i noticed already.
most of the big mag's dont fit in it.
none of my butler creek mag's fit in it.
only big ones that would are the TI ones.

which is kinda funny cause they dont work in my 10/22's worth a damn.

they are too wide.
but a long ways too, they dont just hang up they wont even go into the mag hole, they are a good size too big to fit in there.

ill snag a pic of it tomorrow to show you guys.

This was in the press release

Models chambered in .22 LR feature the detachable, flush-mounted 10/22® BX-1 10-round rotary magazine and accept all 10/22® magazines, including the BX-25® and BX-25®x2. Models chambered in .22 Magnum use the detachable, flush-mounted JMX-1 9-round rotary magazine.

Back in the day one use to buy a firearm for the quality & craftsmanship now it's about who can build the cheapest gun with the least amount of quality . It is what it is .

And people gobble it up like its going out of style. Then spend hundreds of dollars on fixing the problems that should never have existed.

Been waiting to see pics and a review of these for some time.. I like the idea hopefully they (Ruger) do a good job of implementing it.
