Fondled a new Ruger American 22 today

Excellent video wayupnorth! This was very informative. I was gonna ask if the mag well is metal or plastic, but you beat me to it in the video. I wonder if a guy could very lightly sand the inside of the magwell to open up the measurements, or very lightly sand the body of the magazines? I have many butler creek 10 and 25 rounders and they all seem to have casting lines where they join the halves of the mag together, im thinking a very light touch up with 250 or 300 grit sand paper would so the trick. The only other thing i was curious about was if this rifle would prefer the steel lips as apposed to the hotlips plastic ones. Both my 10/22 and 77/22 like the steel lips hands down, so i assume this gun would be the same. Again , great video.

Recieved mine today.Typical ruger, fine quality and a very nice rimfire. If anyone is mounting a scope the bases needed are number 12 weaver for both front and back.Tried medium z rings and they clear the sight but if you pull the scope back for eye relief it hits.Installed high burris z rings and it clears buy 1/8 inch .Mag well is tight .I clean mine up a little and all mags work now.

I picked up a compact model today.

All my factory 10 rndrs fit, none of my steel lip BC mags fit. But both of my BC plastic lipped mags do........ Curious.

I'm taking the compact to the 20y indoor range tomorrow, I'll try er with the irons, no scope, we shall see if it's any good at all.......

Just took my new American 22lr standard to the range. Used iron sites only. Nice action, and the gun feels well balanced. Kinda like the optional stocks. Very easy to remove the bolt. Any suggestion on which scope to instal?

I went to look at one ( a friend is looking for a .22 ) at Italian Sporting Goods in vancouver. Couldn't put it down - only my debit card. The bluing is exceptional and so is the adjustable trigger. I just put a Vortex diamondback scope on it and heading to the range on Friday.

I have a compact in 22mag. The bolt was stiff and my eyes had a hard time with the sights.
I put a cheap browning red dot on it and the action has smoothed out after about 75 rounds.
I love it!

Any body with an accuracy report yet? how do they shoot? and how is the trigger. I'll be like the rest of you - will pick one up next time I see one!

i did a review of it shortly after this thread went up.

LOVE the gun, shoots like a dream.
the action was a little ruff at first, 50 rounds in smoothed right out, 100 rounds in its like 2 blocks of warm butter sliding against each other.
just a dream to work the action now.

really like this gun.
ive been shooting it with the irons so far, need to order up a scope and rings before spring time.

that review i did on it dropped back a bunch of pages, here is a link too it.

Ruger American Rimfire Review.
Very cool - did you get a scope on it yet to really see what it can do? A red dot would be great for range and a bit of grouse hunting as well I figure. I was thinking jof getting the shorter barrelled version so my son can use it, but picking up the extended stock pads for me.. Are the longer stock pads available yet for purchase?

I took my new Ruger American out earlier this week. I was shooting from a bench at 50 metres. I zeroed the scope then shot 5 targets, as I got used to the trigger the groups got tighter with each target. The groups measured 1.14", 1.02", .9", .68" and .64". I'm pleased for a first try out. I would say it has potential. Now I need a calm day to try it at 100 m. I was shooting CCI Standard Velocity.

I handled one the other day at my LGS... I was very impressed... the heft and feel and fit/finish was excellent at that price point. If one is looking for an inexpensive bolt action rimfire, it would be hard to overlook the Ruger American... I love that it uses the rotary magazine... an excellent starter pair would be the American and a 10/22 carbine.

That is decent..if it works well at 100 I'd say Ruger has a winner.
