Had really hoped for something more.

Despite being brand new, it looked "used" to me. The trigger and hammer looked like it was "burnt" somehow and the overall finish was much duller than I had expected.

Oh well, I guess I need to look at something else instead.

The colouring on the trigger/hammer are from the hardening process and are supposed to look like that.

As far as the finish goes, I prefer the brushed stainless to polished stainless... But to each their own.

New Smiths are junk compared to the older ones. Check out an original 686 and you will be more impressed. I am NOT digging what the factory is pumping out lately.

I agree....I compared the 686 to a GP100 side by side and I honestly preferred the feel and look of the Ruger

I guess it is whatever feels good to you. As far as I am concerned the S&W looks, feels, works and is a way better gun then the rugers are. That is not to say that there is anything wrong with a Ruger the S&W's are just better in mu option.

I have a new 4.2 686.And an old 686.A 586.A 27,28,19, a DW 15, A python and a security six.I would keep a 686 over anything.The one's with carbon steel hammers and triggers are far smoother to shoot.

Sold my 686-1 to my cousin 20 years ago. :HR:

7 shot 686-6
It is the only gun my one 13 year old wants to shoot. 2500+ rounds fired now. Great guns never any problems.
